Well, a friend called me because we were bidding on an antique at eBay and it turns out that eBay is completely crashed at about 11:00 PM EST.

So is Paypal.

Think it was hacked? Why would the entire site crash? Can't even log into the technical issues community discussion forum to complain.

Went to email Matt D. (Drudge) about it and saw the big link he has up about the hunt for Stakkato - hacker

Maybe Stakkato is behind this.

Interesting timing.

This morning on the Technical issues boards they are announcing that they "had a power failure in San Francisco." How pathetic. They are so unsophisticated that they can have a "power failure?"

I've escaped the eBay craze so far. Never bid, never put anything up for bid.

According to eBay, some of their databases were down for about 45 minutes and others were down for about two hours due to a hosting center's power failure. While this could be construed as bad hosting management, I think we'll eventually find out that some sort of hardware failure also took place. A hosting center CANNOT function without backup power, including both UPS and generators. There must have been a more drastic failure in the building's power system for it to cause servers to go offline.

We had some huge storms go thru No CA yesterday;
hail, tornadoes, rain, high winds; the works.
We lost power for a while; but other areas got it way worse.
