Literally. Guys in the suits had to have been dying. It was probably 108° with 275% humidity.

That was Germany, a few days ago, apparently. More like 21°C at 40%

Yup. Also, we probably just got banned in Thailand (they're trying to suppress those images as being lèse majesté).
The new Mac Pro has up to 30 MB of cache inside the processor itself. That's more than the HD in my first Mac. Somehow I'm still running out of space.

It took me until now to realize the subject was the photo and not Germany.

I once saw a guy get shot by a muzzleloader filled with granola, it wasn't pretty. (No one was seriously injured.)

Grape nuts, to be precise. Most of it had already turned to powder before it hit him, but it did leave a big bruise and he hopped around for a little while. Things that happen during lodge trips after everyone is smashed...

Yes.

One of the things I like most about this clip is I can guarantee you if anyone had gotten injured here, they would have immediately accepted responsibility for having brought it upon themselves.

All the real ammo was locked away, I'm not sure what the hell he's complaining about. It would most definitely be Hunter S Thompson approved.

How about that Uber exec that resigned because he joked about women talking too much in a all-hands meeting about sexism. Christ on a cracker.

4K display discussion moved to it's own thread in Peripherals. It was too reasonable a request - not ridiculous at all.

Another expensive painting stolen.

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-australia-40502759

Why would anyone value this painting more than $20 is beyond me. Add $50 for the frame and the frame is more expensive than the painting.

That is a very weird statement.

You can barely buy a printed copy of a photograph of some random thing for $20. Why wouldn't a painting by a famous artist be worth much more than that?

Is this a point about taste, or the meaninglessness of originals in a world where an arbitrary amount of reproductions can be made for almost no cost?

Both actually. I would have posted more, but I had to check out of my hotel. Some random art (most important part) + something that can be easily reproduced.

I think if we look at it honestly, what gives these things value is the buyer wanting it to have that value, otherwise there's no point in buying it.

Yes, I realize this is a tautology. Such is art.

To me, the only ridiculous part is pretending it's something else. If someone is up-front about it having value only because they want it to, they can and should knock themselves out. That's basically patronage of the arts, and I'm all for it.

Modern art is only considered art by a relatively small handful of people, while classic art (the kind that takes years to even learn, much less become a master) is recognized by almost everyone.

These days, someone can crap on a plate, paint it gold, and it's called art.
