Regarding the HM chairs.... they are great and I really used to want one a lot, but then I got a job at the worlds largest corporation and all us plebs sit in those. Now when I look at them all I see is the daily grind. I don't want one at ALL anymore!

It's a pretty new PB 1Ghz with SuperDrive, courtesy of Apple Store in Valley Fair.
The paint *feels* different, that's for certain. Whether it is different, who knows.  I just shipped my old Ti800 back to Apple for paint repair (apparently the external "whitish grey" part of the case is not ** covered ** by Apple because it is plastic???!?!? ... but they made a one time exception... hahahaha....).

I�m sorry but the guts look pretty much the same. Same dissipater, same heatpipes (are they thicker or what??), also the screen looks as bright as the recent rev. could someone post some hi-res pic�s (the mac.com slideshows don�t work (at least for me :-(

Do PC people post pictures of them opening their new computers? I don't think I've ever seen one, but I've don't frequent PC boards. You'd think seeing one of these would be enough, but I get carried away by the whole vicarious thrill of it all...

It's safe to say that most PC users don't post pictures, mainly because their systems are just not that unique in design.
If you want to have an overused metaphor thrown at you, it's like getting some standard family sedan from Ford/Toyota/whomever versus getting most any car from a premium marque (even ones like Acura or Infiniti). Because they're relatively uncommon and often have a great deal of care put into their making, Macs (like luxury cars) tend to be treated as special things.
As far as Macs go, Powerbooks are only just behind iMacs in terms of "ooh, aah" reverence.

What makes you think that Fords or Toyotas are made with any less pride or quality control because more of them are manufactured? In fact, most "luxury" car manufacturers are actually subsidiaries of the major manufacturers anyways. Sure, they;d have you believe that you are getting something special. That's how they convince shallow souls with no personality that a $60K USD will make them complete. Plus it's always a great laugh when I see some poseur driving around in a mercedes or bmw SUV afraid to park in a puddle.
Oh well, that markup just makes autos for the rest of us more affordable. Thanks!

I know this is a stupid complaint... but the new powerbook box is so dark and ugly. I still have my box from my Ti500 and its bright white and just looks like an Apple box. Nice, clean, and elegant. What's up with the new black boxes.

To a degree, you're right. I know full well that Acura is a division of Honda, that Infiniti is a division of Nissan, that Lexus is a division of Toyota, and so on. They may borrow from the parts bin for their "lesser" models in some cases, and you should never assume that the reliability of a car is guaranteed based on the prestige of the marque.
However, most luxury car manufacturers do have higher-quality parts for their models, and tend to stick to factories where they know the quality should be top-notch. The new Mini, for example, might be a small compact car, but it's still made by BMW in England. Not only is the design relatively unique, it's supposed to be incredibly reliable (apparently people who've had them for over a year in the UK don't report problems). So, you see, a luxury car can be worthy of praise heaped upon it.
Anyways, this train of thought is way off-track... let's see more Powerbook pictures!

The ironic thing is...the powerbooks all look exactly the same. Most major PC makers have at least a half a dozen models, so you might think that it would be make sense for PC people to post pictures of their box openings and setups.
I'm not sure it has anything to do with a feeling of "luxury" so much as the fact that a lot of Mac users identify with their Macs and with the Mac community in a way that PC users just don't.

Well speaking froma pc users point of view (I ordered a powerbook a few days ago, they really are sexy machines By the way whats the turn around at apple's site?) I would say the people that would post pictures of their new pcs aren't buying whole pcs... they are piecing them together and as such it wouldn't be all that great to take a picture of your nice new stick of ram, mobo, video card, card drive etc... but with something like a powerbook you are really unwrapping a very polished complete machine.

The latest, 1-gigahertz TiBooks represent the pinnacle of style and function. There are simply no upgrades one can do to the machine. The RAM is maxed out, the hard drive is maxed out, and the CPU is the fastest available. It's a nice feeling to unwrap something totally complete.
