Gmail yesterday evening it seems has enabled all users with a gmail account with IMAP support. While not everyone, me included, has the feature yet, but I believe it will be up 100% by the end of the week.
Anyone else happy about this?
I am because it is also great for my iPhone.
Sorry I have not link, I am sure if you Google it you will find a million blogs and such about it.

Has anyone set this up on their iPhone?
I wonder if it gives push like Yahoo IMAP does. That would be awesome.

YES.
Not push, as I understand it, but this was really what I've been wanting for ages since my gmail address has been my default address for years now. It works.

Still no IMAP here.
I bet they will have it ready to go when I setup my gmail in Leopard. Question is though...does Leopard snag the IMAP or POP settings for the auto setup?

No push, but just having IMAP is wonderful for my needs. I can stop forwarding my mail to an aim.com account!

I have it set up on my MacBook and iPhone. IMAP makes email on multiple devices so much easier.
One potential hiccup I've come across so far is understanding how to properly "delete" email. I really like GMail's archiving, as it has saved me several times when I was too quick on the "delete" button in Mail. You can "delete" (while saving to the archive) and really delete (as in vaporized forever) from within the IMAP client, depending on which Trash you put the message. If you put the message in the GMail/Trash folder then delete it, it is gone forever. If you simply hit "delete" on a message somewhere else (inbox, for example) it is "deleted" but left in the "All Mail" archive. (I think--I would have to experiment with this for a while to know for sure.)
Here is a chart the shows the GMail IMAP folder bahaviors.

I just got one of my email accounts up and running with this.
Seems very organized and love the fact that if I read it on my phone it reads it every where, that was my big thing with POP.
Guess I will be spending some time this weekend getting all my email accounts setup with contacts and such in this.

Hopefully this'll be in everyone's by the end of the weekend. I have it in one of my two accounts, but not my primary one. Works perfectly with Mail, at least.

This is HUGE... I'm still waiting for support being activated. Are there a lot of people that already have it working? I wonder why it is not simultaneous and why some people are getting it before others.

I'm guessing they don't want every GMail user trying to log into their IMAP servers at the same time.

I don't think I have it yet. How do you know when you have it? Under the settings in gmail?

Yes...where you set your POP settings is where you will find the IMAP settings if you have them.

One outta two for me also right now. I wonder if they're turning em on based on account age. Anyone see any evidence for/against this? My 2004 account has it and my 2007 account does not.

I now have 3 out of four.
Can not be by account age because the only one left for me is my really really old one (from 2004). Also my oldest is my primary, but it is alright.

I have one out of three so far. It can't be being enabled by date since my newest domain has gotten it but my older ones still don't.

I read on the Google site that you must have "English US" as the default language to use IMAP. I just changed it from "English UK" in hopes that it will trigger my account!

Both my gmail account worked this morning. When I went into the setting via the web browser on my PC - both already had IMAP enabled (they used to be POP enabled) - I didn't have to switch anything - seems like IMAP is now the default.
And when you add the gmail account to your iphone, you have to pick "Other" if you want to add it as an IMAP account. If you pick "GMail" - it will try and add that account as POP.
peace

My main email account is forwarded to my GMail for your domain account.
Inside my gmail for my domain I created a new email address and it had IMAP, but my regular one still doesn't.
I switched over to the new account, so now I have IMAP in my public and private email accounts.

I have a weird problem -
I can only send email from my Gmail IMAP account when my Gmail POP account is active. When it disable my Gmail POP account, I can no longer send from Gmail IMAP. Thoughts?

try deleting your gmail smtp config and re-adding it. Make sure you're using TLS + port 587 (the smtp config settings from gmail's site). I think it will also work with SSL and port 465.

Got my Touch yesterday and didn't realize that the default Mail settings for Gmail (create new account, click on Gmail) defaults to POP3. Manually configuring under Other for an IMAP account works beautifully.
