I received a macbook from a friend to try to fix.

i was told it had a drink spill on it so it wont turn on. the power button does feel kind of odd...

BUT... when plugged in, the charger lights up and the battery charges?

any ideas?

edit... " i spilled a drink on it in November of 2008 , then unscrewed it to let everything dry off. It was fine until February, i got the ram changed and it was fine again, then a month ago it died totally."

You could try a new top case and cable.

There is. Probably. You are looking for a pair of solder pads on the logic board labeller 'PWR'. Short these and it should start.
I have plenty of more important things to do, if only I could bring myself to do them....

If you smell sizzling bacon, let go of the jumper and take it in for repair by a pro.
