Anybody know if the power supply in the PowerMac 8500 series is capable of being swapped out with a (preferably) more modern, QUIETER model? I assume that PS's are pretty standard, run-of-the-mill equipment that can be swapped out as long as the power output is the same or higher, but just want to make any swaps as seemless as possible.
Any ideas?

It's not a standard power supply in most (if not all) Mac's. PC's use ATX/AT/Baby AT/NLX ect type power supplies which are different sizes and connections than what Macs use. You power supply might be louder than it was when it was new, so maybe replacing it will make it quieter? Try sites like sunrem.com and macresq.com to see if they sell a power supply for that machine.

I put a standard PC ATX power supply in my Power Computing 132. I got it from Galaxy Online, if I remember right. About $35.

Remember, Windows is just DOS in a clown face.

Power Computing used standard ATX power supplies. The 8500 doesn't though. It is possible to modify an ATX PSU to work in the 8500, but I recommend just replacing the fan in the 8500 PSU. I have done that a few times in non-standard PSUs.
