Do you need to buy an upgrade CD for 8.6 or does the 9.2 CD that is available with X okay to use. I would hate transfer 20 GB for backup, especially as I don't have a backup!!

The 9.2.1 CD included with X is fine for an stand-alone OS install. Just make sure your 3rd party stuff will play nicely with 9.2. before adding them back. I have a G-4 AGP 500 Mhz box running 9.2.2 and all is well. Personally, I always backup & wipe my drive before installing a new version of the OS. I have found that (for me) this minimizes any mischief and errant behavior introduced by a system upgrade(s).

Enjoy!
