Now what! My critical files are backed-up. I think I’ve figured out what “bus multiplier” means, and that the speed at which this AGP 450 should be set is 14 x it’s bus speed, or 1.4GHz.

However, it’s original instructions, xlr8yourmac, and what’s left of GigaDesigns site don’t seem to agree on the dip-switch settings. In fact xlr8yo’mac still refers to “jumper settings”.

Filling in the processor upgrade’s details:
Tested at 1.4GHz
2MB L3 Cache
256KB L2 Cache
and, oh yeah, the box also says “Satisfy your NEED for SPEED”

No information seems to have been updated for years, so I come here, begging.

For the record, the original instructions say to set them at:
dip switch 1 = on
dip switch 2 = on
dip switch 3 = off
dip switch 4 = off
dip switch 5 = on
Any first-hand experience would be most helpful.

This is my first post, so go easy, please.

Coming Soon! What graphics card to replace it’s once blazing, now pathetically pokey, ATY, Rage 128Pro — for $4.99 or less, or thereabouts.

I would follow those original instructions you posted, assuming they're the ones that came in the box.

my gigadesigns 1.33GHz upgrade in my G4 uses jumpers, not dip switches. if your upgrade uses dip switches, use the dip switch settings you posted. if it's jumpers, use the jumper settings off xlr8yourmac.

Thanks folks. All seems to have gone smoothly.
The real agony was, of course, in backing up all my drives.
The lack of a discernable snap as the unit seated had me worried a bit, and the failure of one of the fan screws to go in properly had me sweating a bit as well. It took me about 20 minutes to work it in with needle-nose pliers.

I took your advice, setting all dip switches as described in the unit’s original instructions - exactly as stated in my original post.

Ah! 1.4GHz — BLAZING!

This’ll give me plenty of time to wait out that elusive nVidia GT8800.
Funny thing though — doesn’t seem to have helped my typing or thinking speeds, as hoped.

hey, nice to hear things are running smoothly!

i, too, have a sawtooth 450, and as soon as i can muster some extra cash, want to shove in a cpu upgrade. although i did upgrade the video card a few years ago with a flashed PC Radeon 8500.
