We have all seen and read a lot of interviews that Gates has done since Vista came out. While this has been fun, if you haven't noticed, nobody gives him time to really talk about Vista. They put him on the defensive immediately and it always kind of snowballs from there.

I'm not defending him by any means and it is really pretty disappointing that the people doing the interview lobs the easy bomb but never do any follow ups or really push Gates.

What we are now seeing is complete frustration from Gates and the ensuing melt down. At least he is half civil. Ballmer would have probably killed someone by now....

The Get a Mac section on the Apple web site is probably getting some serious hits and reads. When Leopard hits the street...well this whole thing is getting very exciting. I really believe Apple does have something up their sleeves. They are sticking their chests out farther than ever.

Gotta love it.

BTW. Kudos on the new site design. Simply awesome.

I'm sure Steve Jobs has said equally scathing things about Bill, Microsoft, and every product that company has ever released.

It's how big business works. I work at an engine company. Employees are always making jokes about how our biggest competitors suck for whatever reasons...no big shock there.

I do tend to agree that the new ads are misleading, oftentimes downright incorrect, and lean pretty heavily on the concept that PC users are boring, uncreative, unexciting, and social rejects. Not really a good idea to insult the people you're trying to draw in...

I've read about 20% of the interview, and I have not seen one single truthful word out of Bill Gates mouth. I didn't know he was such a liar. I'm really disapointed. It's one thing to steal from Apple, and another to tell all those lies.

I don't see them as being that harsh in spirit. But they are obviously written more to entertain Mac users than anything.

I don't see any of those things in the ads. I'm really curious 1) what is misleading about the ads, and 2) where on earth they say anything at all about users?

I think you're a little confused there. That's not defensive, that's attacking. Beside that is not even my point as it is not an interview with Steve Jobs.

The characters in the ads represent the machines mac and pc (with windows) - not its users. The insult if any is thus to winpc's not their users.

One of the PC character's prime complaints is that his users want to use him for music, movies, burning DVDs - this is the advert where he has all the stickers over him.

To restate- the PC users are trying to have fun - the computer is complaining.

Exactly. People I know that use a PC at home and at work think these ads are pretty funny. They somehow don't feel offended like some on these boards. Maybe they use computers only cuz they have to and then go on to other things. This is called getting a life.

I guess Gates can do all the complaining about Mac OS he wants. Bad user reviews, press reviews, and user experience will soon flurish on the NET and once again show how fun Windows really is. Now all we have to do is wait for 10.5 to come out, and hopefully, it@ll blow away VISTA to no end.

Only from my own experience, I have both a Mac OSX and PC (WinXP) both setup around the same time, in a fairly open University network. Both had passwords, but no firewall or anti-virus. In less than 2 minutes, the PC was hit with several worms and eventually rendered unusable. It had to be locked up tight with firewall, anti-virus and spyware detector. The Mac to this day (2 years now) still has no anti-virus, firewall still off and it has yet to be hacked or infected. To be fair, I will setup a new Vista system with the same level of security as the Mac and see how long it remains clean.

I would really like to see the results of the Vista vs OS X experiment posted here. My experience in a University network is identical to yours with regard to XP vs OS X.
