I reinstalled UT2K3 on my Dual 867, 1 GB RAM, 9000 using the updated installer, but when i try to launch the program, it quits. Any ideas on what could be getting it angry?

not sure what happened, but i deleted all the files that had anything to do with UT, and reinstalled...and it worked!

The game is faster in panther. On my Dual 867/1024 MB/9000 im getting 30-40 FPS average on antalus (is that the outdoor level?) compared to the 20-25 i was getting before. not too shabby.

Maybe Ryan Gordon's new OpenAL will allow UT2k3 music and sounds to take up even less CPU power, leaving more CPU to the rest of the game (bot match benchmark scores in particular)...

...or maybe that's just me and my wishful thinking.

So...is anyone brave enough to compile Ryan's new OpenAL implementation and replace it with the one in UT2k3? I'm curious about the speed boost.

Thanks, dude.

Now, though, Ryan's gotten mono 8bit sound vectorized, which apparently does big wonders to UT2k3 on G4s and G5s...I hope xlr8yourmac posts new results.

Ryan says that the OpenAL implementation in the retail UT2k3 used up to 25% of the CPU at times. This explains why the Mac version gets spanked particularly in the botmatch benchmarks.

After the OpenAL tweaks, it'll probably still get spanked...just not as bad.

Ryan Gordon's on fire...he's really putting lots of Altivec optimizations in his OpenAL implementation...this will boost performance in ArmyOps, UT2k3 and UTPG. Man this is gonna be sweet.

So, what did you throw ou?. I just installed Panther (clean install) on a G5 and also reinstalled UT 2003. Now it doesn't launch. I used the new installer and I'm SOL.

Any other ideas?

He never answers his e-mails. I wrote to him 3 times and never got an answer.

He said to e-mail to get an interim version of the UT2k3 patch that will fix rendering problems with ATI cards...no answer.

I've not had that problem. I guess you've just got to write compelling emails, or get him at a time when he's not really busy....

Can you ask him for the 'interim build' of the patch for me?
