Heh,

I still remember that look in their eyes... two of my friends were just completely addicted to Apeiron They even developed twitches to go with the looks.

I managed to avoid it by having my Duo 270c's trackball broken by Barrack (ahem) and having to resort to an older backup machine during the contagious phase

Someone should do a study on the different gametype addiction patterns of different people. My favorite Ambrosia games have been Barrack, Swoop and Chiral(?!) which puts me on endless autopilot - no thinking, just stimulus-response.

Great to see some (all!) of them making it to OS X!

Having been converted (by Myth II) to an online multiplayer, I'm hoping someone would come up with something along the lines of Bolo, but more actionpacked, like Pocket Tanks, but for 2 - 16 players simultaneously, allowing people to drop in and out or with short enough games to not keep people waiting too long, like Avara, or Myth II, which has a great abundance of play types, too, but without the overhead of unnecessary 3D navigation, rather like Space Tripper. Something for an office quickie now and then, and then again.

Hmm.

Maybe there's something there. I should be doing something else, but....

I'd love to see Ambrosia re-release all those classic games as a "suite" for OS X, like those Sierra Card/Board/Word Game collections, but instead each branch be a different Ambrosia classic optimized for OS X. They could be lumped together and the price could reflect a "value pack." There are so many times I'd love a fun, brief, diversion. Maybe a suite with online connectivity where high scores for each game can be posted and d'loaded at startup. And same-specific chat rooms? Ok, maybe not...

Bring 'em back please! I played for free as a poor college student, I'd pay for OS X versions now!

Sweeeet.

I have fond memories of running down to the basement to play Apeiron on late sleepless nights when I was young. Actually, I also remember pressing pillows over that old Mac's speakers so it wouldn't wake my parents when it started up, since it insisted on changing the system volume setting.

There is now an official Upcoming page for Apeiron X (with screenshots, and a progress log); check the Ambrosia Newswire for details:

http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/news/newswire/

(there are some other interesting games on our Upcoming page too...)

To make a long story short, we had contracted the carbonization out. That person dropped the ball, we canceled the contract. Tried it again, same thing. We then decided to just do it in-house, and it's quite close to being done actually.

However, we decided we wanted to redo the graphics to make them look better. Can't just leave well enough alone.

That's good to hear. My wife just moved to OS X and was going thru a bit of withdrawl. I've distracted her with PocketTanks but that's only going to last so long.

How much of an overhaul to the graphics did you guys do? 24-bit graphics? 32-bit graphics? Can we get a screenshot?

Moki,
While you're at it, can you buy the rights/code for Strategic Conquest (I think it's with Delta Tao) and port that gem over the OS X? It's a shame to see such a great game disappear with Mac Classic (which I haven't had installed on my Macs for over a year).

I would just like to say sorry to those people who've been waiting so long for this title. I had the game 95% done back in March with the only remaining issues being performance and some HID calibration problems. I then spent three months trying to solve the former, while the latter was out of my hands for much of that period.

I am very glad to hear the issues have nearly been solved and look forward to finding out how that was done. Without being allowed to use OpenGL when I knew the bottleneck was graphics-related was very frustrating!

Thank you for not flaming me since the announcement!

YAY, that was my FIRST ever computer game, no joke.
I was strictly a Pizza Place arcade-er until i found out that computer of mine could play games. I've never been the same since...

Actually it's been so long since i last posted in MacNN I no longer live in Nottingham :-)
The rest of my family is in West Bridgford (Abbey Park) though I've been at university in Hatfield, Hertfordshire for some time. I will shortly be moving to London when I return to full-time work with Feral.

WOOHOO! I'll gladly pay yet again for an OS X version! Man, the hours I've killed playing Apeiron!

Just goes to show that a fun game doesn't require the latest hardware. Gameplay, people. Gameplay. Otherwise it's just expensive eye candy.

Speaking of, please don't lose sight of simple elegance while redoing the graphics. I was horribly disappointed with what Delta Tao did to the OS X version of Spaceward Ho!. The "new" graphics lost all the friendliness of the original. Basically it became a "Look at what we can do with Aqua" Fest, without apparently any attention paid to whether it was actually an improvement.

Just my opinion, but it was such a visual mess, so hard to look at, that it was no longer fun to play. As much as I was dying for Spaceward Ho! on OS X, I dumped it into the trash after an hour of trying to accept it. But maybe I'm just extra picky. :-)

Keep up the great work Ambrosia!

Pardon my ignorance, but isn't this just a copy of Centipede? Or did Centipede copy Apeiron?

Either way, my father and I spent quite a few hours trying to beat each other's record in Centipede back on my Atari 5200.
