I have both a PM 7300/200 and a 6500/275 and am considering upgrading because the upgrades have come down in cost

Should I upgrade the 6500 with a (Sonnet G3 Banker 300MHz Upgrade w/1024K Backside Cache 2:1) for $169 or the 7300 with a (PowerLogix PowerForce G3/375 PCI with 1MB Cache) for $180?

Upgrade the 7300 is more useful, since you can use OS X on a 7300.

Well, technically yes you can run OS X with that machine. But you need to change some things in Darwin. You can't just pop in the CD and install, right?

do the 7300, it is better all around. You may have to change things in darwin depending on the card, and whether the manufacturer supports it.

My vote would also be with the 7300... it is overall a more expandable box.... 3 PCI slots (for other miscellaneous add ons), and more Ram slots (the more ram you have for X, the better )....
good luck,
dave

The 7300 I believe is an all SCSI machine, which makes it a much better candidate for upgradeing. Likewise, it has its processor on a daughter card, so any upgrade for it would really be a processor replacement, rather than a processor overlay, I think. I haven't looked it the specs of the 7300 for quite some time.
