Parental Control of Application Usage Time

We need an application with timeout software for Mac similar to Time Sheriff for Win. Specifically, we have an 11-year-old addicted to the Minecraft game and want to set up an automated daily time limit. The amount of time would be set by family discussion but after that the app would limit daily usage. 2012 MBP running Mountain Lion.
Does anyone have any ideas?

OSX parental controls work great for this. You can set allowed times to log in (our 10 yr old is blocked after 8pm, also addicted to minecraft!), whitelist certain websites, allow certain apps, etc.

Isn't that built into Parental Controls:
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, and then click Parental Controls.
Open Parental Controls preferences
If the lock is locked, click it and enter an administrator name and password.
Select the user you want to control, click People, and then select Time Limits.
To set a maximum amount of time that the computer can be used during the week (Monday through Friday), select “Limit computer use to” under “Weekday time limits,” and then drag the slider to adjust the number of hours per day the computer can be used.
To set a maximum amount of time that the computer can be used during the weekend, select “Limit computer use to” under “Weekend time limits,” and then drag the slider to adjust the number of hours per day the computer can be used.
To restrict computer use on evenings prior to a weekday (Sunday night through Thursday night), select “School nights” under Bedtime, and then specify the time period during which you want to block use of the computer.
To restrict computer use on Friday night and Saturday night, select Weekend under Bedtime, and then specify the time period during which you want to block computer use.

We are trying to set a specific time limit for a specific app, not just overall Mac usage. I did not think Parental Controls had that capability. Does it?

Hmm, no I don't think parental controls can set time limits on an app basis, just overall.
So you only want to limit Minecraft? We just limit computer access entirely, if he wastes it on minecraft and wants to play something else, tough. If he needs more time for legit uses (homework) we can manually override.

A bit of a kludge, but:
You could restrict access to Minecraft entirely for his account, and add another managed account specifically for gaming, and time-restrict *that*.
