My son's ipad from school stopped charging altogether in september, or so it seemed... what the school says is that it's a random reboot error (it would reboot before charging enough power to reboot) and it's a logic board thing. I've been searching and searching and some people have said it can be fixed with hard reset (nope) and complete wipe/reinstall. The school did this and at least now it will charge and start up, but it does reboot at odd moments.

Anyone have this happen? Any fix besides new logic board? Of course the warranty has expired.

Are you on the hook for fixing it? You said it was from the school, so I would think it's up to them to get it fixed (or replaced.)

They are claiming that because our insurance lapsed, we have to pay to replace it, even though it is not a problem caused by carelessness.

Good news is, after 2 months of bugging the tech dept, they finally reset it, and sent it back to us... after slowly charging, it is now functional and there have been only few restarts. So we're going to keep it as long as we can.
