Ok I am starting to get really mad with software update. It works fine EXCEPT every time I use it, it tells me I need to download "Disk First Aid 8.6.1" That would be fine except that I have downloaded it TWELVE times now! Every time I use software update it tells me that I need to download it. I tried throwing disk first aid into the trash and then running software update... downloaded it yet another time. No solution, it still does it. Anybody else have this problem? Can somebody tell me how I can get it to stop alerting me to download disk first aid?

I have the same exact problem.

I tried some fixes listed on another thread with this topic resulting in a temporary success. Deleteing the software update preferences worked briefly for me, but the problem is back.

I just have it ask before downloading and then uncheck the items that i don't want.

I realize that I can just uncheck it and avoid downloading it, but it is still annoying to have it show up each time.

From MacFixIt:

Disk First Aid 8.6.1 false update request workaround Richard Podolsky suggests that creating an empty folder with the name "Disk First Aid 8.6.1" inside the folder Applications (Mac OS 9) will stop the previously reported problem of Software Update incorrectly noting that DFA needs to be updated.

Update: Mark Bernstein reports that this fix did not work for him. Now even Richard claims that the advice was in error. However, other users report it did work. YMMV.
