I just got my very first Mac (Powerbook) and for the life of me I can't figure out how to uninstall a program. I installed a demo of a game and now would like to uninstall it.

I'm a wintel convert and am used to the unstaller where afterwards you would still have to screw around with the OS to get it right.

It seems to me that in OS 9 you just delete the folder but I'm not sure.

Please help.

First see if the installer has an uninstall feature, usually under "custom install".
If not, use Sherlock to identify extensions, preferences, etc, and simply drag these to the trash. If Sherlock can't find anything,(have you indexed your Mac today? This week? Ever? ), go into your system folder and look in the control panels folder, extensions folder, and preferences folder for items that are related to the game demo you're trying to delete. Drag these to the trash.

Just delete the folder itself.

Rarely do programs install extensions or control panels; and when they do, its usually just a required file that you have already, like GameSprockets or QuickTime or something.
Even if that sorta stuff does get installed, it won't do any harm, most likely.

Drag the folder to the trash and empty it; and you're done.

Sherlock uses the index function to identify and locate stuff on your hard drive. Bring up Sherlock, go to find, index volumes. Leave it alone for awhile, and let it index. Then, anytime you need to find something in your hard drive, use Sherlock.
Cipher's right, this procedure may be overkill. However, to be sure I've deleted an application, I check everything.
