Google has confirmed it will be removing QuickOffice from both Google Play and the App Store. Set to take place in the coming weeks, QuickOffice is being taken down following Google's updates to Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides that allowed the apps to work directly with Microsoft Office files without first converting them, among other new additions.

The Google Apps Blog advises that the integration of QuickOffice features means the app has outlived its purpose, and will be unpublished from both app stores. Existing users of the app will continue to be able to use it instead of the Google Docs suite, though the blog warns new users will not be able to install the app, and no new features will be added in the future.

Google acquired QuickOffice in June 2012, with Google later making the app available to all users at no charge.

That was Google's intention after all. Purchased it and kill it. Only the cloud based Google Office Suite reigns.

F Google, this was a good app - you had to ruin it, then ruin it some more

So what is the problem?? Functionality of QuickOffice is being ported to Google Drive.

"Quickoffice has been made redundant. Its ability to view, edit and create Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel files on mobile platforms is now ported to Google Drive apps."
