An interesting news story today: E-mail warnings deter Canadians from illegal file sharing.

You mean you don't have to sue teenagers and grandmothers to curb piracy?

The entertainment industry has long expressed frustration with Canada, and its unwillingness to modernize copyright laws.

We don't need a Canadian version of the DMCA, thanks.

What I find so interesting about these email warnings is how Canadian it is. "I'm so mad, I'm gonna write a letter!" Far preferrable to "I'll sue!" or even "I'm gonna git mah gun..."

(BTW, I've never received one of these emails, so I can't comment on their contents.)

Countries with high self-confidence should not compare themselves to the U.S.

Ok then: how should I react when a horde of American media interests lobby the Canadian gov't to adopt moronic American laws?

Fixed. I can't count the number of times of seen Americans in here pontificate on how the US is so much better than other countries.

If you had confidence in the Canadian Gov't. you shouldn't worry. Alas the "self-confidence" comment by the poster.

I don't see how that comment was pontificating about the US. I saw it as directly insulting the US. And it appears by the poster's response to your "fixed" that I was right.

It is preposterous that the RIAA is sending out letters to Canadian citizens, when in fact it is unclear that filesharing is illegal in Canada. Perhaps the Canadian government should ban all RIAA music if they don't stop violating Canada's sovereignty.

I never said that post was pontificating about the US. Just pointing out that American's also compare their country to other countries.

That is easily the best solution I've heard to date.
