General info rather than related to the show, but many users snort or smoke heroin rather than shooting it.
[*]As far as I know, there have been no African-American serial killers.
Not many. The Atlanta child murderer... can't think of his name.

Yes, but the general characteristics of an addict should be rather similar … I was wondering that, too. Dexter could have gotten the smack from evidence or so as well, I'm surprised Rita hasn't considered that. As a matter of fact, from her perspective it would sound very plausible to me that Dexter did it for me and my kids (which, in fact, he did).

I'm really holding myself back from watching the 4th season premier. It's a terrific show.

I didn't see that coming and only when Dexter walked into the bathroom and saw Harrison in the blood did it occur to me that Rita was dead and then that's when I thought of her in the bathtub.
I have a question:
Trinity looked for women -- for the bathtub death -- who fit a certain profile. Married, and three kids?
Once I saw Rita dead I was trying to remember what the profile that Trinity looks for. If it is married with three kids then Rita fit the bill and I was wondering if they decided this ending way back when they first mentioned the bathtub death profile.
Great episode and after the first season, this was my favorite season so far. I thought the first season was brilliant and while I enjoyed them, I didn't feel that the second and third were as good. This season was great.
So when does season five start?!

Season 2 was even better than Season 1, IMO. Right now I would rank the seasons 2, 1, 4, 3.

I got Showtime for 3 months as a thank you from DirecTV. Watched a couple of episodes from Season 4 of Dexter, stopped immediately, and rented Season 1. I don't want to ruin a good thing.
This lady has needs. I need to tend to Seasons 1-3 before I jump on 4.

I don't think they could have cast anyone better than John Lithgow for Trinity.
The thing that sucks is having to wait several months for the next season, especially leaving the season the way they did.

I had a feeling Rita would die this season, and it was no surprise. What really got me though was seeing the baby on the floor sitting in the blood. A very poetic way of tying it in with Dexter's childhood. It was incredibly well done.

My family knew ahead of time (near the start of the season's airing) about
Harrison being covered in blood
because we have a weak friendship connection to the production. We could have really spoiled it for the Internet if we wanted to. But we were still shocked by what occurred.

I sorta saw it coming too, but not like that! What an amazing twist! I can not wait until next season.

Okay, so it totally shocked and awed me, but I think they kind of led up to it. Did anybody else notice how much of a controlling bitch Rita was becoming? Or when she was singing in the car with those kid's tunes? She became a LOT more obnoxious this season; prior, she was generally pretty cool. Anyway... what know? Think Dexter will be a father of three? Or will Aster and Cody go hang out at their grandparents?

I agree with your Rita bitchiness observations. I wouldn't have taken that as foreshadowing by itself, however. And yeah, we're thinking Aster and Cody will be with the GPs. Then Dexter and Deb can solve crimes together and fall in love, since on the show they're not technically brother and sister and off the show they're married. It should have been fairly obvious that Rita was on the way out because I imagine the on-screen relationship was making Jennifer Carpenter somewhat jealous.

The episode felt a little empty up till that point. My only wish is that it had been his sister. Holy hell she is annoying.

Nothing like a cop carrying a huge gun with the emotional maturity of a 10 year old who wears her heart on her sleeve.

No no no way. I think Dexter is going to die, and Deb will raise the kid. Seems like a fitting end. Maybe Deb will know too, but now she's a real cop and can teach the kid in the way of Dexter, just like Harry did for Dex. I mean, the kid is going to grow up to be like Dexter. It's pretty obvious.

To be fair, her fiancé was a serial killer who almost killed her and the other love of her life got gunned down needlessly and died in front of her eyes. All of which took place in the span of four years.

Great show, crazy ending. A little annoyed at the whole "I can be different" sappy stuff at the end, but overall this show's got me hooked. Looking forward to next season.

Personally I'd leave the spoilers in place... it hasn't aired in many countries yet.
I don't know why, but I can't help but think this series, whenever it wraps up, should end with Dexter being caught and executed.

Just finished season 1. Kinda "Meh" of a bad guy in the end but still enjoyed the show.
His sister is the worst actress ever though.

I don't think that's going to happen - it would be far too much of a downer to foist on fans of the show. Losing Rita is as much a blow for Dexter as most anything that could happen to him personally. He came to terms with being caught a number of times in the past when that could have happened, but he wasn't prepared for this.

Try Season 2.

There are a lot of much worse actresses out there. She can be annoying, though.

You're right, so far in season 2 she is much better than season 1 but still sketchy overall.
Plus she has no upper lip so it must be hard to emote.

Dexter is back. I watched it last night. A lot of confusion on Dexter's part regarding how to act emotionally. Should be a damn interesting season.

I do think that Dexter will die by the end of the show. As for the discussion about the annoyingness of Deb, I totally agree; she can be so irrational and ridiculous at times.
she effed quinn after they finished cleaning up rita's copious amount of blood in her brother's house? what in the heck? where do these issues even come from? yeah she was adopted and Dexter clearly has issues (and that's been explained) but from all appearances she had a fairly normal childhood. OK yes, she did have relations with the ice truck killer, I'll give her that.
sometimes I just don't really get the way she acts considering what we know about her. she's definitely one of my least favorite people on the show.
I also didn't really get the animosity towards Dexter exhibited by Aster. it was like all of a sudden she loathed Dexter's presence when there wasn't much indication of that before. Perhaps the next couple episodes will delve into this

Actually, Dexter is adopted (previously was a foster child to Harry and Doris Morgan). Deborah is their biological daughter.

Ahhh I need to stay out of this thread for a few more days! I'm halfway through season 4 (so far I'm liking it almost as much as season 2, which is my current favorite).

Anyone who suggests that Deb and Dex could become romantically involved on the show (I realize the actors are married in real life) either 1) clearly has never been around an adoptive family; or 2) is Woody Allen.

What a difference a couple of years make. Season 5 was very poor. If the next season doesn't improve dramatically I'll give up on the show.

Two was my least favorite. Killer v cop < killer v killer. And Lila was just annoying, not threatening. To me season 2 felt like Three's Company with knives. I miss Doakes though.
Anyway, I agree that 5 wasn't great. The plots were recycled -- Dexter's apprentice, suspicious coworker, and justified vigilante (in Deb's view specifically... maybe they're grooming her to turn to the dark side...). The only new thing they had to work with was the single father aspect, and that was disposed of a little too conveniently to be believed, IMO.
My hope for season 6: fast forward to Harrison as a teenager. Neither is aware of their relationship for some reason (scars? prison? something more imaginative?), and Harrison is hunting Dexter. Cody is a cop and Astor is a DA (natural due to mom's murder).
Anyone else have a plot idea they want to see for this show?
