I'm quite proud to say I've never watched it... too much mindless stuff on TV today.
Now if they brought back Futurama, on the other hand....

I am not a fan of the show really, but the right person did win. That girl can sing. And the girl from Georgia (where I live) was not bad, but she's not even close to the winner in terms of ability.

I thought the better singer won...
But like others have said, #2 will probably make a larger impact in the music industry.

What did I say racist? Oh, you took "vanilla" as a racist comment didn't you.
Well Vanilla means PLAIN not white. Vanilla isn't even white but beige.
Perhaps your own racism made you see otherwise...sad.

I am also never beige or "Vanilla" coloured. I am Caucasian but always have a darkish tint. So what ice cream does that make me?
He was just letting his own racism trickle through to see more in my PLAIN vanilla comment.

You people never quit your bickering... Maybe it's time to let Zimph and g_f back into the political lounge, where some bickering is at least acceptable...
Anyway, the right person won. The blond girl wasn't nearly as talented.

? You are the one that brought up color not me.
Oh and:
According to you, there were two flavors / colors in the finals. Chocolate and Vanilla. You made the Vanilla distinction, hence the analogy of color was placed upon it. Then you mentioned how Vanilla was Beige... etc.. and boring. You, people sure can dish it out, but when you get caught in something, you change the rules. It went sour for you, not me.
I'm not the racist one, as I just pointed out your vernacular faux pas.

You live in Chicago? What is the "most" multicultural city in the world? Is it the same one in the WORLD? It's been stated already, but I will restate it. What makes you immune to being racist if you live in a multicultural city? Does that mean if one does not live in either the "most" multicultural or even an average multicultural, they are open to being accused of racism before you? That's funny.
Again, you are the one who made the distinction between the two. A logical person would simply make the connection that you did. Vanilla was the non-black girl, and thus the other girl could be designated as the opposite, which is chocolate. These are your terms! Not mine.
Why couldn't you have just said, the other girl was not as talented, and even plain?
BTW: In the spirit of this thread, I was rooting for the chocolate girl to win, because I like the way she sang. She's the more talented flavor, imho.
And, lighten up Francis... sheesh!
Just because I won this argument doesn't mean I won't screw up and have you there to toss the perverbial pie in my face, so until next time. Have some vanilla or chocolate pudding and relax.

Jon Peter Lewis should have won, but he was eliminated a little while ago...
Shame on you, America.
...and yes, the white "vanilla" girl should have kicked Fantasia's ass (picture Charlie Murphy kicking Rick James into the mirror)

Actually, that was you - SWG just said "Good, she is amazing, better then that vanilla 16 year old", vanilla in this case meaning 'plain, boring'. You brought up the chocolate vs. vanilla thing, he brought up the vanilla is beige, not white thing, yadda yadda yadda.
Now can't you both [/all] please just stop bickering about it or do it through PM's? I'm asking you nicely - this could be a fun thread and doesn't deserve to get locked because of eternal arguing about completely unimportant things (on all parts, please don't anyone reply to this, stating who started and who didn't; I don't care, nor do most other people here).
Edit: Completely forgot the on-topic part!
I haven't seen anything of American Idol, so I can't say anything about who won or not, but in the similar contests we have at home (namely Popstars), it always seems to hold true that the winner is not the most talented one, but the one who has the most potential to become another boring Britney-clone [even the male ones] who make at best mediocre music (sorry, I mean lip-sync to at best mediocre music that others have written) - but they have a prettypretty face and the teenage girls will love them...
The sad thing is that the really good ones, who usually finish second or third, never seem to get the breaks they deserve and actually make the kind of impact they would have made if they'd won as they deserved to.

Vanilla as in the song Vanilla Sex from NOFX. It means BORING...
Vanilla is NOT white. So End this F#*@ING argument right F#*@ING now once and for all...
She deserved to win even if the other one was very good. It's the public who decided. If you're not happy and you didn't vote, LIVE WITH IT.

Ya he totally don't want to admit that when he called me racist he was the one actually being racist. And that whole chocolate thing he started
Anywho, no more about him.
The girl that won was incredibly talented, I don't like any of the previous winners, I might actually look forward to an album by her though.

SWF, I think he was just doing what you did earlier in a thread. Called people racists for no reason.
While I agree he shouldn't have done it in here, and yes vanilla in this instance does mean
"plain" I think he was trying to make a point.

I've been trying to find the percentages of the vote. I can't find it anywhere though, I've read through the AP and news sites. Last year they said the percentages when they announced Ruben as the winner. I feel that this year must have really been a blow-out though. Fantasia was definitely the best singer of the two, but that London girl was the best of them all.
So, someone find the percentages of last night!
