So i wanted to do a fresh restore of Lion because I'm selling my MacBook. When running the installer and trying to start up with it i decided to erase my hard drive and put it on my hard drive and do it but now the problem is that it wont ever open up the installer, everythime it boots it goes to the Mac OS X Utilities. I don't know what to do( please help me!

If I get you right, you just did a straight copy. That (as you've discovered) won't work. Essential files don't get copied over.

If you boot and hold down command-R it should take you into recovery mode. From there you can download and install the OS.

Edit: rereading your post, it's possible I've completely misunderstood you.

Can't you install the OS with that, or is that not what you want to do?

Well, at minimum, you need a computer with Snow Leopard on it, and an account from someone who's bought Lion.

You can download the installer in Snow Leopard from the App Store, and then copy it to a drive with a bootable OS.

Technically, you could duplicate that installer USB stick.

How did you duplicate the stick? You can't just copy from one to another. You need to clone it.

Not that I know of.

I've bought multiple Mini Servers just so I have gear which will run SL, and hence legacy After Effects plugins.
