If its hooked to an external display, why can't you get your data off it?

I have plenty of more important things to do, if only I could bring myself to do them....

To be safe, you should re-install the OS and to a security re-write of the hard drive. Boot from the OSX install disk, use Diskdrive to reformat the hard drive, and then re-install.

Restart your Mac with the DVD disk in and hold down the C key. That will boot from the CD-ROM drive and you should get the picture on the monitor.
