Have you got this drive?

I'm about to buy one and need to know what maker and model drive are inside it. Unfortunately, the shops that I went to will not tell me.

I really need a region free DVD drive.

As it's going to sit on top of my Mac mini which is hooked up to a 42inch plasma I don't want something too ugly. However, it can't be a Panasonic or Matsushita drive as they can't be flashed.

Really appreciate any advice from anyone here....

Thanks,

Jordan

I have spoken to a few stores here and none of them know. They also won't open the box for me to look at either.

Was hoping to get an answer from someone who owns one.

Why not buy an enclosure and a known-good drive?

DVD Region+CSS Free - Watch & Copy Any DVD! Remove Region, CSS, ARccOS, etc.

-there is always the software solution to this. Buy the drive, crack it open to see what it is --if you can't make it do what you want = use the software to do it.

The older version has a Philips DVDR16LS drive in it, not sure what the slim version uses though.

Okay - finally bought one off eBay for $170 new which is considerably less than the $299 asking price in the store.

How do you find out the model of drive inside?

I tried going to System Profiler but it says it is a La Cie which I'm sure can't be true as they don't make drives, just badge engineer others.

Is there any utility out there that will let you know the real make, model and RPC status of the drive???

Thanks,

Why put that link in there for Windows only software? Is there a Mac version of this software somewhere else?
