Hi, ive seen in related forums that is possible to overclock the Power Mac G4 (gigabit) from 400 to 500 Mhz.
Does anyone know how?

Thanks.

It's unfortunatly not something you want to mess with. I have the same machine and wanted to do the same thing, overclock it to 500mhz. I highly recommend you don't do this upgrade. It requires you to solder off some surface mount resistors and bridge some of those traces together. All of which are located on the bottom of the processor daughter card. This procedure should only be done by a very experienced solderer with good tools. If you want information on how to do this, go to ( http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/ ).

However, if you had a G4 model prior to any of the AGP models it would be and easy upgrade, all you would have to do is remove the jumper block on the motherboard and bridge certain pins together (no solder reuired).

500 may be out of reach, but you can almost surely hit 450.
The soldering is touchy, but not that bad.
Get a very fine tip soldering pencil, around 15-30 watts or thereabouts.
Get fine(.015") solder and a pair of 2-3 diopter reading glasses.
Follow the instructions at xlr8yourmac.com
I OC'd my 500 Mystic(dual) to 550 last December.
Bummmmmmms me out that Apple now has a Dual 800, but I gotta buy an iBook first.

I can't wait until someone pops out a Dual 850 overclock. Man that would be sweet.

olePigeon,
If someone does a dual 850 O/C, i will be TRULY impressed. An 867 O/C however will only be somewhat impressive. Do the math and you will understand why.

I too have a G4/400 AGP. I'm not sure thar the mod to 450 MHz is worth it for me...

If I could get hold of a 733 or 800 chip I'd be interested.

Is this possible, and if so does anyone know where from?

Take a look at: http://webusers.warwick.net/~u1034376/web/

O/C'd my 400mhz gigabit to 500, and it's been rock solid for 4 months now. Do yourself a favor and put some heatsink grease on the processor before you reinstall the heatsink.
