After 3 years of use, and (not kidding) 16 trips around the world (literally) my Inspiron 8200 is DEAD.
I think it's a hard disk. My second battery rolled over and died last week. (I think somethings up when multiple components die like that.)
<a moment of silence for my Dell>
<moment over>
Anyway: Maybe this is the excuse I need to get a new PowerBook!! It would certainly help me get over my period of morning. (I'll tell my wife that I needed the powerbook for mental recovery of my recent loss.)
What do you all think?

Over 4000 posts in a Mac forum, 3 Macs, and you need convincing to get a Powerbook? I'm surprised you even had a Dell in the first place.

I didn't need convincing, I needed an excuse! <GRIN>
(My current hardware is listed in my signature)
I've been making my living as a Windows programmer. (C++, C#, .NET). Thus ... the Dell.
Things have changed ... I have options ... dude ... I'm gettin' a Powerbook!

Didn't the teenage Dell spokesperson get locked up a while back (hence the demise of those oh-so-funny commercials)?

Just say you need a laptop for portable use becuase you've grown to be so dependant on it over the years of using your dell, but you'd prefer to resolve any compatibility issues with your three other macs (I want them to revive the cube..) that only a mac can truely manage. If she says no, tell her you accidentally ran over a herd of llamas and you're paying a Fijan farmer for his losses...Then get a Pbook in the mail.

Looks to me that you need no excuse if your wife allows you to have the king PowerMac G5 Dualie 2.0Ghz. If you need it, there's no need to mention it.

The only good Dell is a dead one. I'm surpirsed it made it 3 years. Most I've seen barely make it 2.
That being said, get the PowerBook!

I won't complain about the Dell. It's been a good machine.
May it rest in pieces.

In the pc world dell is one of the better companies. I have always had good experiences with their costumer service. Gateway is the one i hate the most. Their machines are so slow it isnt funny.

I've been on the PC side for over 10 years now and Dell is and always has been one of the worst.
I actually make my living keeping Windows hobbling along!
