I finally saw Rob Zombie's adaptation of the original Halloween movie. While the original holds a deep place in my heart (and many of those that like the horror film genre) I believe old Bob did the remake decently.
The main plot was still in intact but he added to WHY Myers was the way he was. And it made absolute sense.
Esp in this day and age of kids (and sometimes adults..) being cruel to others around them by teasing them or belittling them. Sometimes these people end up emotionally scarred, and become sociopaths.
All the good bits and scenes were re-created in an original way.
The girls on this movie acted more like High School girls than the ones on the original I might add. The original take the gals seemed more college age.
I just think Rob's version makes more "sense" than the original.

Thanks. I was wondering about this one. I really like the old one, but... always looking for something to add to my Netflix. (I don't see many out)

Oooo I was waiting for this to come out. I'm glad to hear your positive review. Remakes usually make me cry.

i may be biased, as I love the horror movies. And most of Zombie's movies have been decent and original when it comes to such genre. Others hated it, but I did not.

I agree totally. I like all of Rob Zombies movies. This one I thought was one of his best, just because it actually had a lot of depth to the character. You got the complete story of why he went nuts from a kid to an adult. He also made Michael Myers a lot more fierce once the stuff hits the fan. He did a great job on the remake, as I was worried because I'm a huge John Carpenter fan, and don't like to see any of his movies remade.

John Carpenter's remake of The Thing is one of my absolute favorite sci-fis.
I enjoyed Rob Zombie's Halloween.

This is pretty much how I saw it.

A maniac in a mask slashing his bloody way through a group of annoying teenagers.
I can't see how you can go wrong with that. It's a sure fire recipe for success.

Believe it or not, it went a bit deeper than that. And there wasn't a lot of FF13th style gore.

So I'm wondering why they released this movie in September, and not closer to Halloween. The first thing I thought when I saw the preview was "September? Really?". But I admit the preview had me intrigued. I liked the original, and I dig Rob Zombie's stuff so I'm looking forward to seeing it. Probably wait until closer to Halloween though.

They wanted to catch the end of the summer movie going crowd; hence the Labor Day weekend release. Summer time brings in more money; and being the last holiday of the summer...perfect timing. A release in October would have brought in less money. Traditionally.
Course, this movie could have been the exception...

I'm thinking it will get yanked from theaters; oh...this weekend. And then brought out again for a special screening on Halloween.
And then DVD

Mine too. A wonderful movie. Ranks with the Alien as the best sci-fi horror ever.

Yeah, but a head that detaches itself from a body, throws tentacles out, squirms accross a floor, then grown legs and walks away while screaming is AWESOME.
I agree, though, ALIEN is still my all-time #1 favorite sci-fi/horror. I'm just saying that The Thing was pretty good. It's my favorite movie to show off special effects.

The "Do you see anything you like?" scene was even kept in
They did good with keeping with what made the original great, and then made it a bit more deeper. You actually sort of felt sorry for Michael.
At least I did.

Alien and the Thing are two of a kind. Far from being the same, they are both incredible storytellings. I can't say one influenced the other, except both are depictions of nightmares.
