I am thinking of getting a Time Capsule to backup my Mac and my wife's Macbook Pro. Is it possible to just use it to backup and not use it to share the internet connection? I have Fios and dont want to mess with the crappy Actiontec router. I found a refurbished one at Best Buy for $189. Can I plug it into my switch that is connected to the router and not need to use the wireless?

Sure, just turn off wireless mode and in internet > sharing put it in bridge mode. Now it'll act like a switch (not router) over ethernet, nothing over wireless, but it should still be visible on the network for backups.

If I hook a USB hard drive to it will Time Machine be able to use that as well for backups? Or is it just for shared storage?
