i'm pretty impressed by this since it's stock ram and on my revb 12" w/ 768mb i never got over 102. does ram make a big difference on xbench?

anyway this laptop is about perfect - no wobble, the latch seems more secure, and the screen looks better (these are all compared to problems i had with my revb 12")

now a need a gb of ram and i'll be good to go. anybody found any outstanding deals on ram lately?

Just out of curiosity, when looking at these Xbench scores, do you mainly look at the first line "results" for comparison, "Cpu test" or do you analyze the whole thing? I'm comparing my 867mhz G4 RevA 12" to your results.

i believe "results" is a straight average of all the individual scores. i would look it up but i'm on a syrupy slow connection right now.

Did you make sure your powerbook was in the highest performance mode? I don't know anything about xbench, but the dude in the other thread forgot to do that, and it raised his overall score by like 50 points.

To recap the new 12" gets 125 while the new 1.5 15" gets 150 or so.

Yeah he did didn't het... But this seems right for 1.33 Ghz machine... The 15" was 1.5ghz. Now that I'm looking at the RevA vs RevC, it looks like I'd be Seeing a 30-40% increase in performance which is always nice...

me? yes, it was set to "highest performance". why, do think it should have scored higher?

No, like I said, I don't know anything about xbench and I don't even own an apple computer yet (well, I bought one but it isn't here yet. hasn't even shipped. ). I was just curious, and since I bought almost the exact same computer as you I was interested.

Would the 12" rev C be substantially better at playing games than the Rev B?

The new 12" will be a bit better with games than the rev B model was, but just a bit. Games are more dependent upon better video chipsets than faster CPUs. Your main advantage would be in those few games that want more texture memory than faster processing.

If you want better gaming, it'd be more practical to either get a 15" 1.33 GHz system or admit it and pick up a G5 desktop (preferably with a Radeon 9600 or 9800 Pro).

You've got some background programs hindering performance.

I got a 118 on my stock 1.25Ghz 512MB 15.2" Al Pb.

With that CPU and memory, it should be higher.

So, can anybody explain why my new 15" 1.33 with 768 Ram and the 60 gig 4200 drive got 97 when I ran the test on Saturday? It was set for 'highest' setting...should I be concerned?

Thanks!

Check your processes. Something may be running in the background that's eating your processor. For example, I had a printer driver that was destroying my processor (killed gameplay in UT2003). After killing it, computer was chugging along nicely.

In terminal, type "top" To kill processes, type "kill XXX" where XXX is the process number

The UNIX command line is optional on Mac... there's an easier way

Just use Activity Monitor (in Utilities).

Sorting by CPU usage is good for finding CPU hogs. Don't forget to show "All Processes." You can Quit any process with a click.
