Networking infrastructure and connected device manufacturer D-Link has advised it is working on a new Wi-Fi camera that will include support for HomeKit. Due to ship later this year, the
announced camera will also work with the Home app Apple is including in iOS 10 for users to manage their smart home devices and appliances, and will be among the first of its kind to take advantage of Apple's addition of camera support to HomeKit itself.
D-Link has revealed relatively few details about the camera in its press release, with more information expected to be made available later this year before the camera ships. What D-Link does advise is that it will have "Siri support," namely allowing it to be used to monitor the home quickly via a query from the digital assistant, as well as allowing for two-way communication via a built-in microphone.
D-Link's
existing range of Wi-Fi cameras include 720p and 1080p-resolution video, sound and motion detection, a field of view of up to 180 degrees, pan and tilt functionality, and night vision modes. While they all include the ability to remotely view the camera feed via a mobile app, in some cases the cameras also include a microSD card slot, allowing it to record locally if the network is unavailable.
