Just wanted to see how many other people are getting this. The last successful update I had was on the 15th May. Ever since then, I can see updates but can't install them.
I have looked at the Apple discussion forum and there are a number of people that all have the same problem. Interestingly, most of the people claiming to have the problem are Telewest Cable users here in the UK.
I have tried repairing permissions, turning off firewall, rebooting and all the usual malarky but to no avail.
Have phoned Telewest and understandbly they say there is little they can do without more information. I can still connect to the internet fine and can download the updates from the Apple site manually.
Wonder if anyone can help here?
Do you know what ports the Software Update runs over? (Perhaps they have inadvertantly blocked one to stop a virus)
Anyone know what the IP address of the UK software update server is?
Anything else I should look for or look at?
Appreciate any help.
Ta,
Jordan

Yeah I've had exactly the same problem from various machines on my home network over the last 10 days or so.
I'm on Telewest Broadband also (connected to the Edinburgh/Livingston UBR).

Got a fix!!!!
Change the DNS settings in the Network section of System Preferences to 158.152.1.158 and 158.152.1.43.
Now works fine for me.
Looks like Telewest have screwed up their routing....

Cheers for the heads up Jordan.
Those look like Demon DNS servers but hey, they worked. I've also tried my employers DNS servers and they work too so yeah it looks like Telewest have screwed something up.

System Preferences > Network > From the pop-up menu titled "Show" choose "Built-in Ethernet" > Click on the TCP/IP tab and enter the DNS addresses in the DNS field and then click apply now.

Those DNS addresses have fixed the problem for me (Blueyonder, North West) - many thanks.
I thought I was going mad - software update was timing out and I couldn't d/l any of the larger software packages from Apple - even through a web browser.
Cheers for the fix!
