I had that with Apple Maps. I live in a village suburb. Five years ago, the main intersection was replaced with a roundabout (which eliminated virtually all of the constant traffic jams).
A couple hundred meters from my home, it always wanted me to hike a right to get directly to the main street to head into town. Problem is, if I take that route, I have to make a left turn onto the main road, which can take *ages*, depending upon traffic.
So I always drove past that right turn to the next corner and turned right *there*, where the street would lead me directly to the roundabout, with hardly any waiting.
A few months ago, Maps finally started agreeing with me.
I wonder if it's just a matter of collecting enough empirical data from drivers like us to be able to automatically make a better judgement?

I’m assuming it’s a combo. It needed our empirical data, but is using AIs to crunch the torrent of data it’s constantly fed. Edit: Waze is a Google joint, so I assume they’re deeper into the AI, in addition to them having probably an order of magnitude (or more) difference in the amount of data involved.
My own secret route, now exposed to the world, is there’s a mile-and-a-half stretch down a side street which somehow ended up with only two stoplights and zero uncontrolled intersections.
However, I want to give Waze full credit for teaching me there’s a point where to get to the expressway it’s best for me to go in the opposite direction of my destination. Even though that’s a longer trip by distance, it gets me on the expressway sooner, and I make up the extra distance with expressway speed.

A rogue time-warp apparently struck our mailbox yesterday. I found an actual Yellow Pages inside.

Say you are in the hospital in Mannheim, Germany. Your roommate is on an oxygen machine. You don't like the noise the machine makes. What do you do?
Why, turn off the oxygen machine of course. Twice. Get arrested, and hospital staff revive your roommate.
The woman allegedly turned off the main switch of the oxygen equipment some time before 8:00 pm on Tuesday, “after feeling disturbed by the noise emanating from (it),” the statement said.
“Although the suspect was informed by hospital staff that the oxygen supply was a vital measure, she allegedly turned off the device again at around 9:00 pm,” it continued.
The 79-year-old woman had to be resuscitated and is still receiving intensive medical care.
The turn-off patient was 72. Apparently she didn't consider that her plan would have her sleeping with a dead person in the room overnight.
Activist lady has since been admitted to a "correctional facility", which I hope includes padded rooms.

I don't see the image connection, but the Kelvin conversion is correct. Be careful with that liquid helium.

The image connection is when I texted “4K” I was referring to an approximate quantity of horizontal pixels in an image.

For some reason, I read "4K" as a 4 KB image file. Which doesn't normally have a temperature. I'd also wondered why you were stressing over such a small file.

Oh no, those are still showing up every single day, and every single day I click "Show me less of this."
I'm wondering if I should contact the sellers and let them know that Facebook is using pictures of their underage daughters to drive marketplace engagement by creepy dudes.

Saw a facebook friend reply to one of those stupid Facebook "can you solve this 'tricky' problem" posts. It was from this group:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/2175119835973149
It's 100% complete and utter engagement-begging, and it's working. I even found my step-uncle-in-law in the comments on one post.
Shit's wild.

Okay, it gets weirder. Another friend answered another one of these stupid questions in a different facebook group, but the same "person" "Tasty Recipes By Deesviral.com" is posting to both groups.
https://www.facebook.com/groups/189290870515760/
Are they paying to promote the group and that's why it's showing up in my feed? Or do I just have dumb friends with bad taste that are interacting with these engagement-begging pages? The second group has specific rules, "RULES: Stay on Topic | No Living Politicians or Religion | Be Respectful | Report Jerks & Trolls | Have Fun!"
But then they also post stuff like this:
Which is transparent, explicit anti-trans propaganda. Or this:
Obvious trolling for anti-vax or worse? "Nostalgia" in general is just a sneaky way in for "stuff used to be better back when..." and then fill in the blank with whatever likely horrible thing you're trying to push.

From my elderly relatives, it seems these annoying groups post controversial things on purpose to drive engagment. Maybe they originally were about crafts, or vintage bands, and maybe they got hacked. Some of them try to get friend requests from their "fans" or post links to fake contests. A lovely scam going around now is a fake page will join a regional group (town) and say they found an injured dog with no tag. please share everywhere! then when it's good and popular sad fido is edited to be really amazing real estate deal with 1950s prices too good to be true!

What’s happening in Germany right now is that a lot of fundamentalist Christian groups are posting comment-baits and then privately harassing those who comment with direct messages.

If you visit Kansas, remember not to do any gun fishing. They're strict about that.
A Finney County Game Warden seized a 9 mm handgun “that was being used to take fish in Garden City,” Kansas game wardens said in a Facebook post May 5.
The wardens said that written violations were issued for “illegal means of take of fish” and “no fishing license.” They also reminded Kansans that “firearms are not a legal means to take fish.”
While firearms can’t be used to fish in Kansas, it is however legal to fish with a bow and arrow or a crossbow.
The arrow or (crossbow) bolt needs to have a line attached. And they didn't say anything about dynamite fishing. That's probably a no-no also.

It’s a combination of comment baiting to increase algorithmic reach for fundamentalist Christian content and, apparently, recruitment tactic for a weird sect called “Eastern Lightning” or “Church of the Almighty God”, who claim that Jesus was reincarnated into a Chinese female in 1973.

Today, I received my first-ever robocall from Kazakhstan. Oddly, when it came in, my phone identified the call as coming from Russia. Later, in the Recents/Missed, it was Kazakhstan.

Man shot roommate in Louisville for eating last Hot Pocket, police say
A man was shot over the weekend in Louisville, and police say it was over a Hot Pocket.
The Louisville Metro Police Department arrested 64-year-old Clifton Williams on Sunday after they said he shot his roommate following an argument in the Wyandotte neighborhood.
Police said that Williams' roommate had eaten the last Hot Pocket, so he started throwing tiles at him.
Arrest slips say that the roommate tried to leave, but Williams went inside and got a gun. The man was then shot in the buttocks as he was trying to leave, according to police.
The victim traveled a few blocks to get help and was taken to UofL Hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Williams is being charged with assault, has been ordered not to have contact with the victim. His bond was set at $7,500.
