Is there any way that I can download files that I see in other people's libraries? My roommates and I want to be able to do this.

For arguments sake, please assume that these mp3s were all free downloads and not pirated in any manner.

No way that I know of. The whole idea of iTunes Music Sharing is that you can see and listen to other ppl's libraries but not manipulate (read screw up, delete, steal, or add to) their files. If you want full access to one another's libraries, why not make one giant shared library in a neutral location and map both your your iTunes libraries to it.

There was once a utility that allowed copying from shared libraries (the name of the app escapes me), but apple plugged that hole long ago. I'm not sure if any utility exists today that can perform that task.

Is it possible to allow half of my iTunes library to reside on one hard drive and half on a different hard drive? I am running out of space and this seems a logical option if possible.

Any and all information is greatly appreciated.

OurTunes used to be able to do this, but I think it doesn't work anymore.

excellent! thank you, I couldn't for the life of me remember what the app was called. I'll give it a shot, hopefully "himself" wasn't right above!

It works if you are connecting to an iTunes library of version 6.x or lower. It doesn't work if you are trying to transfer music from an iTunes 7.x library.

You can share the iTunes Music folder's with apache. Just a few steps in the terminal should have you up and running.

1. make a sym link of the itunes folder in your Sites folder:

ln -s ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes\ Music ~/Sites/music

2. set permissions on your Music folder to allow public read access
get info on ~/Music folder
under ownership set others: read only

3. you need to let apache follow aliases in the Sites folder

add FollowSymLinks to the directory options

vi /etc/httpd/users/username.conf (or use your favorite text editor)
where username is you user name of course

Options Indexes MultiViews FollowSymLinks

4. save it and restart apache:

sudo apachectl restart

this url should now give you a list of your music:

http://localhost/~username/music/

other machines should see it with your ip address instead of localhost
You can take the dude out of So Cal, but you can't take the dude outta the dude, dude!
