What's more impressive is that I'm still using a rev B iMac G3 with a 333 MHz processor and 512 mb of RAM as a half decent server. Runs Tiger pretty well.

My first mac was an iMac Bondi Blue, I bought it together with a telephone landline subscription. I bought 128mb extra ram for about 300 euro's back then. And I didn't have any software except what came with it for half a year. They are nice memories though

I loved my tangerine iMac. Bought through work and our Apple reseller discount.

I used to use an iMac like that plus Pagemaker to do a college newspaper layout then generate the PDF for the printer. Class all-nighters were one thing, but editorial and design all-nighters were just as frequent.

i can relate to that, I remember calling my Windows-friends with simple questions (how to eject cd?? where is the delete-button??) and they told me they couldn't help me at all with my candy computer It was before I even knew about Powermacs and Powerbooks, the ibook wasn't introduced back then.

I was in second grade and didn't really care about Macs as long as my dad's Power Mac 6100 ran Star Wars X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter.

I was married a year, had just bought a house, and working for GM doing experimental engineering. I mostly used the iMac for internet purposes and very basic digital photo. I had a Kodak 1 megapixel POS.

I studied at university, broke, but needed a computer. I was planning to lease a Windows computer (Aptiva) but on the way to the shop I saw the iMac for the first time, and I had to get it, the shop offered a great plan that would let me pay the iMac with my telephone-bill for 3 years, but they stopped billing after 6 months. Things went up from that moment on, next year I had a powerbook lombard.

I bought a Powermac 6500 six months before the iMac was released. I had to take out a $2,500 loan from the bank to buy it. It was a LOT of money for me back then. Six months later the damn iMac came out for $1,300 bucks. It was superior in about every way and cost half as much. Not only that, but I was instantly upside down on my loan, because I owed a lot more then my computer was worth, and a lot more then what it would take to buy the iMac.

Learned a lot of lessons about technology purchasing that year.

I bought a 6500 a couple years back for $2. Put Linux on it, ripped out the guts and installed them in a Mac Classic case, then gave it away.

Ten years ago I was in eighth grade and had just bought my PowerMac 7100/80AV for $300 that I had saved up from my paper route.

I came in for Rev D, didn't have the money when the Bondi iMac came out.

Say what you want about its' looks (and that awful goddamn mouse) but within months every computer manufacturer on earth was sticking translucent panels on their PCs.

Not only PC manufacturers, but back then it seemed EVERYONE was riding the translucent wave. Toasters, staplers, George Foreman grills...
