Having just come back to these boards after a few months away, I was wondering if any of the old Appleinsider crowd still posts here? I know about pscates and finboy - hi guys.
And on a related note, can you believe that the old AI page is still up? Yes, it's still out there, lingering like some sad cyberghost, with its promise of June 21 to resume publication "soon" (obviously a creative interpretation of that adverb is required), its last piece of actual news from April 27, and its highlighted preview of Word 2001 "due out later this year" (>snigger< ). What on earth is the point, when it's so obviously kaputski? And even more oddly, why is MacNN still linking to Appleinsider in its top-of-the-page banner?
I know it was just a website and didn't amount to a whole heap of beans in this crazy mixed up world (mangled Naked Gun quote alert!) but I notched up more than 500 posts on the AI orums and quite a few others managed two/three/four times that....
Been in the long grass....

I'm also an "AppleInsider Exile". My most notable postings were in the thread "QT - How do I save a stream - I.E. the MacWorld..." (yup, I still keep a link to it in my bookmarks ).

<sigh> those were the days...

I'm bringing AppleInsider Forums back online tomorrow, most likely. Definitely this week. They're done and ready to go, I just have to finalize a few minor things.

The main page will be back as well, but later.

Actually, that was "Naked Gun" mangling "Casablanca", so you were mangling, twice removed.

So when can we register for the new AI?
Its time for Apple to release a new PDA, but until it does, long live the Newton!

To settle all the nerves here... what does one do if some brat logs on and registers your name? Like say a MacNN reader decides he wants to be Fran441 instead of "GalacticNewbie" is there anything that can be done?

So gorgonzola, do we have a time for registration? I need to register in the first 5 minutes.

If somebody registers MacAddict I will be one angry Mac user.

G4's will be sent in the mail depending on the generosity of your local Apple Retail store.

AI intro'ed me to the whole mac scene. Jobs owes them a commision. If it comes back tommorow I think I'll get even less work done than usual.

To all the concerns about usernames: we are working on a plan to either verify who people are or regulate who gets what username. In the event that someone "hijacks" your name, we will see that the name is returned to it's proper owner. It will probably be rough in the first few days, but we'll try our best.

They won't. We're running two UBB's as well as some other things on this box, and both processors are idling at 95%. Bwaha.

It can handle easy.

hey yall,

i just came over here to see if any old AI folks were around so i could dish some propaganda of my own and stumbled over this great news. cool. but i'll believe it when i'm posting on it.

anyway ,

my website http://www.iTelevise.com is going to London in January and i wanted to see if any of the the old AI crowd was based in England and maybe we could hook up when i get over there.

i'll be over there the second week of January shooting "man on the street" interviews and doing some other funky things. i could definitely use an intern or 2 and certainly anyone is welcome to come along.

i'll post a general notice in the lounge and ceftainly on AI if that really starts happening again.
that would be cool.
i'll keep you posted as we get closer.

I'll make an announcement tomorrow afternoon when the boards are online. We were originally going to hand-approve each registration, but since we don't know each and every person's email address, we've decided to just let registration be open. If your name is stolen, you can email the administrative contact ([email protected]) and we can restore your account pretty quickly.

And MacAddict, PLEASE stop refreshing the boards! The hits are going up like crazy even though the boards are closed!
