when it comes to vram, i'd say go for more as you can't upgrade your vram later.

64MB is good enough, but if you're planning on keeping your machine for more than 1.5 years then opt for the 128MB...you won't regret it. Not to mention if you plan on using an external monitor, splitting a 64MB VRAM GPU would give you 32MB per screen, whereas splitting a 128MB VRAM GPU will....well you could do the math on that .
NOW YOU SEE ME! 2.4 MBP and 2.0 MBP (running ubuntu)

Of course the only downside to the 128 is that you have to do a BTO and the 1.5 Ghz is no longer an option.

You can get the 128M vram with the Ultimate 15" sold in stores... but that also comes with the 100GB harddrive and the 1G of ram. But you can buy it in stores!

Radeon 9700 is a very powerful chip! Don't let VRAM affect the real preformance! Get the 128MB VRAM and you won't regret it when Tiger comes ;-)

Geez ... my memory is going. I forgot about that.

The store won't offer the educator discount on those models though. (Traumatic experience ... I must have purged it from my memory.)

I have the 1.67 GHz with 128 MB VRAM and I love it. Especially with my dual screen setup.

My advice: get it. It's not expensive and it's one of the few thing you can't change later on. If you get 64 MB now and you regret it later on, you'll have to sell the entire PowerBook.
