Canada (Toronto).

That's esp. irritating since it's filmed in Canada.

OK. I finally was able to watch the first two on You Tube.

I think they're definitely worth watching.

Ok anyone else notice how much this occupation story in the webcasts is EXACTLY like Deep Space 9's 4th season which was also by Ronald D. Moore?

I haven't watched the webcast, but my wife and I have been watching DS9 from start to finish on DVDs, and I have noticed some paralells in motifs and plots from when Moore joined the series.

Anyone have a YouTube link for today's Webisode? I can't find it.

How are they downloading the Webisodes anyway, to upload there?

They are extremely similar and I think BSG is what Moore wanted to do with DS9 but the studio wouldn't let him make Star Trek with its good image go that dark.

Anywho, think about DS9's:

1) Viris that can destroy the enemy and cause genocide.
2) The underground movement
3) The "good guys" becoming part of the "bad guys" task force
4) The religious foresight and non-liniar time
5) Leaving the main ship for a season
6) The multiple occupations
7) The previous war with the cardasians that has now returned.

I could go on and on.

I just hope this season of BSG doesn't make me feel like I have seen it all already.

I know. I have that feeling too, a bit. While I don't think it will make BSG any lesser, I truly forgot how good DS9 is--it's become my favorite Trek (not to derail this thread).

Youtube links please!

(So I can watch them right away when I get back from work today.)

DS9 was dark. Would have been interesting if it had gone completely dark. mmmmm.... dark sci-fi drama.

1) The webisodes won't play in some (all?) places outside the US.
2) The first two webisodes are already on YouTube.

... and the Tyranny of Digital Distance

Clearly, NBC Universal has elected to try and generate fan interest in BSG's third season premiere, but have decided to limit the webisodes to that segment of the internet nominally American (and only US, not Canadian, as pointed out by D'Arcy Norman). To some extent, this might appear to make sense to the studio executives financing BSG, since the release dates for season three will be later in other countries.

They don’t seem to notice that the very large and thriving fan communities that built up around Battlestar (and similar shows) are global in nature. There may be arcane big media arrangements that mean the third season will debut later in the UK and later again (if ever!) in Australia, but the buzz about BSG, the communities which actively discuss and to some extent participate in the show (a sense heightened by Ron Moore's podcasts) and thus the interest, is spread further than the national boundaries of the US (or the ISPs located therein).

By barring large segments of the BSG fan communities from seeing the webisodes is tantamount to a slap in the face to the very loyal fans in other countries who not only watch the series, but buy the DVDs, comics, soundtracks, and other offshoots from the BSG franchise.

As one Canadian put it: "They can film it in Canada, but they won't let us see it."

Got the BSG 2.5 DVDs. This is the description on the back:

Pretty much the only real new thing here is the Pegasus extended episode.

Speaking of 2.5... Only 2.5 more weeks until Season 3 starts.

What kind of extra material is present? Besides Pegasus Extended, that is, and the podcast commentaries for each episode.

I haven't watched them yet, but it looks as though there's basically nothing you can't download from the website, besides the extended Pegasus.

It's just organized better and better quality of course.

I watched the extended Pegasus. It is good but hard to tell what is new as they more or less just cut lines in the middle of scenes and not so much entire scenes.

You learn things like the Pegasus is a Mercury class ship, twice the size of BSG but only needs half the staff to run (I guess that is why the CIC is so small and short staffed).

You also learn that Admeral Caine knew of Baltar before the attack and is happy to see he survived the initial attack (the funny thing is he is the one who tells Six to kill her). You find out what Pegasus' Six's mission was before she got caught, and the Pegasus Deck chief takes over for Tyrol on Galactica.

First 12 minutes of the season three premiere, and they're definitely going all out on the dramatic aspects of the show. Very dark.

i know a lot of people from outside the US (like me ) are having problems getting to view the "webisodes" so i thought i'd post this youtube link that i found for webisode 9.

When i searched for episode 9 on youtube originally it didn't come up in search results. When i use this link it works fine (link here) but it still won't show up now when i search for it on youtube.

i wonder if youtube is filtering some searches now?

I'm just glad they're running it twice in a row.

I was supposed to be off work today, but got called in for an evening shift from 5-9pm. By the time I get home, the second airing should be close to going on.

So happy I'm not gonna have to resort to BitTorrent...

I love - LOVE - the whole "insurgency" and suicide bombing angle. Add that to the premise that the Cylons are actually there to "save" them, or something. And the whole attack the police - who just happen to wear ski masks to hide their identity from the others - reminds me of something...

Hmmm...what am I thinking of? I can't put a name to it.

That was really good. Better than I expected. And I like that they're finally using the Sharons. I've always thought there was a lot of opportunity there for interesting interactions with the other characters, like we saw in the scenes with Cally, Adama and…er…Xena. (Sorry, I can't remember the character's name. She's Xena to me.) How the crap is Laura not full of holes, though?

By the way, if anybody lives around here and is interested, Grace Park is going to have a Q&A session at the Asian Film Festival next Saturday to talk about Galactica.

Compared to the relatively anemic and unsatisfying 1-hour debut of LOST, brimming with scenes in which you can feel the writers fashioning awkward dialogue designed to reveal nothing, the 2-hour premiere of BSG was fantastic.

With BSG, we get confident, rich, multilayered, inspired storytelling. That 2-hour starter was a season finale all on its own. The parallels with contemporary issues dealing with "freedom fighters", suicide bombers, military occupation, and the basic philosophical questions about trust, personhood, and moral agency raised by this show manage not to upstage the distinct character-driven dramas each of the main characters is facing.

The level of ambition here is unlike the rest of what's on television. Although I remain a fan of LOST, that show's protracted way of exploring plot points is both too conservative and too manipulative, in general. Too many scenes in which characters emotionally and logically should discuss things fans want to hear, but don't because the writers are invested in the gimmick of keeping viewers perched on the edge of their seats. Of course, paradoxically, when you've been on the edge of your seat for a while, it feels less like a suspenseful position and more like a stagnant one.

On a related note, I was glad to see Baltar working on redeeming himself. Six-in-his-head was right. He needed to sign the document in order to live to fight another day. I have a feeling later he's going to help the resistance in a critical time. But for now it seems he's on a path to good.
