I can't figure out how to play songs on the iPod while it's connected to my Mac. I know i read somewhere you can do this, but I can't remember where now.

Anyone know how?

You can play them but you have to do it through iTunes.

You have to select the manually manage songs and playlists option within iTunes. Then you can click on the songs and playlists in the iPod library and play them as though they were on your HD.

The sound will not come out the headphone socket though.

I hope this helps.

Okay thanks. I knew how to play the songs with iTunes, now I'm just wondering why you cannot use the iPod while it's charging.

I take my iPod to school and use the Quicksilver G4's there, but I don't think iTunes references the music from my iPod. So I'm left with my iPod connected to the Mac but I can't listen to music

Oh well. Thanks again.

You should be able to. If the computer has iTunes installed. I do the same when I go back to my parents. Your iPod should mount in iTunes like normal. Click on it, and change to manually manage, and then click on the songs in the iPod playlist to listen to them.

This definitely works with the new iMac as I have done it many a time.

I guess you already know that you can play songs on your iPod while doing a recharge, if you charge it with the adapter instead of connecting it to your MAC.
