Anyone know why the option key doesn't work on my computer when trying to restart it to load OS 9 insted of OS X? All that happens is the start-up chimes play over and over, and the screen stays black till I let go. I've heard it only works on G4, iBook, ect... But i've also heard it works on older machines like G3s. I own a G3/400 with DVD. Is there some sort of upgrade i need? or am I doing it wrong?
Thanks for the info!!
-Chris

Only works on NWR (new world rom) machines.
What computer is yours?
Beige G3? No go.
Upgraded to G3? No go.
B&W G3? Should work.

Its a Blue and White G3 i bought new in july last year. It was the speed bump version before the G4s came out.

I heard it should work, but like i said all it does....screen stays black and keeps playing the startup chimes.

its a BW G3/400
Int. 6 GIG HD (came w/ it)OS X installed
Int. 15 GIG HD (maxtor slave) OS 9 installed1
192 MEG RAM
RAGE 128 Graphics Card (came w/ it)

all in all it's a stock system besides the RAM (upgraded free from apple during a promo) and the second HD i installed.

Thanks!!

The Yosemite G3's and the low end G4 (350 which was based on the Yosemite Motherboard), aren't based on the UMA (Unified Motherboard Architecture).

However, all new Mac's since the original iMac, are based on the ROM in RAM design. Also all Powerbooks since the Lombard, and all iBooks use the ROM in RAM and are based on the UMA design.
