The music industry is to extend its copyright war by taking legal action against websites offering unlicensed song scores and lyrics.
The Music Publishers' Association (MPA), which represents US sheet music companies, will launch its first campaign against such sites in 2006.

MPA president Lauren Keiser said he wanted site owners to be jailed.

Ah, won't the corporations love it when you have to pay to get ANY piece of information off the internet? We seriously need to start another internet, that's underground.

Now we will have to learn to use our ears again.

I bet that will be gone after too.

You are going to have to pay to hear. You might say, hear the CD of the guy in the car next to you.

Dang I was subjected to Audio clips of the crap the labels are pushing while working at Best Buy... should I be giving them money? But now are they going to pay my therapy bills as I rock late at night saying quietly to myself "Don't start no stuff when you're all jacked up, don't start no stuff when you're all jacked up..."

I hate the music industry more than I hate soccer mums in SUVs using a cellphone whilst reversing on the 401 because they've just missed an exit.

Man, what next? Erase my memory after hearing a song so I can't hum or whistle it as I walk?

Gee, if guitar tabs and lyrics are in their sights...guess cover bands playing in bars and clubs nationwide are next on the hit list.

I drove by in the southbound lanes some time later...it was pretty rough.

Anyways, yeah. Some people's kids.

The first shots have already been fired...I was just about to upgrade my favorite Widget when I came across the following:

Good thing there's an "underground" Internet. My newly upgraded widget works great!

That's just horrible. Who would ever do such a thing ? You gotta be pretty deranged. Can't they just take the next exit or something ?

The MPA? Sheet music? WTF? How many of these stupid organizations are there out there? I say screw them and let the artists decide. The artists should hold their own copyrights (I would hope at least) so if they want to their lyrics public and don't care what the fans do with them, then the MPA/RIAA/whatever can go die somewhere.

If this keeps up, it will get to the point where some kid doing a report for school will end up going to jail for using some sort of copyrighted text even if it isn't music related.

Once lyrics are played on the radio, they are public domain.

Sooner or later song titles will be banned online. And after that, saying the name of a song will become a crime.

Thats pretty cool.

After gigs I've had people ask me how I do certain things with my guitar but I've never been asked for Tab. If I were I'd certainly do it.
