As a preface, this happened in 6.0.3 and continues in 6.0.4.

I launch iPhoto and it loads thumbs ok, all folders on the left are correct and seems fine, then after about 5 seconds it gives me this crash:

I looked around on the Internets, but couldn't come up with a solution. Some info:

--Tried a brand new iPhoto library file. No avail.
--Trashed prefs. No avail.
--Tried opening iPhoto under a diff user account. Works fine, but it's a new user account - no iTunes DB or iPhoto pics yet.
--I don't have Flip4Mac, but did in the past. There are no Flip4Mac files on the computer (according to spotlight).
--iTunes works fine.
--Tried with internet connection on/off like referenced article. No avail.
--Can't switch off the 'look for shared pics' bc it crashes every time.
--Tried booting in Safe mode. No avail.
--Reset PRAM for the hell of it. Nothing.

The identical thing happens to me as well. MacBook Pro fully upgraded. iPhoto just 6.0.5 started crashing at start up out of the blue. Really odd. The error message (Mediagrabber etc) is quite similar.

I have also tried all of what you've tried (before reading this post!), and have identical results. New user account allows iPhoto to run.

I can restore to a recent backup which I know is working (using SuperDuper), but still am at a loss as how to avoid this in the future.

Narrowed down the problem to the com.apple.HIToolbox.0016cb92289c.plist file in the ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost folder

0016cb92289c is some encoded number that will vary depending on the machine. Probably the MAC address or similar.

Once I removed that file iPhoto started up great!
