I'd like to get a Canon USB-powered scanner for a friend who has a three year old Powerbook, which doesn't have USB 2.0.

Is the Canon scanner backward compatible?

Thanks.

USB is forwards- and backwards-compatible.

USB 1 devices work on USB 2 computers, and USB 2 devices work on USB 2 computers.

But of course, you only get the transmission speed of the slowest device.
