I'm surprised at the many problems everyone is having with the new Mac Pro's. Didn't anyone at Apple check the hardware out properly?

Putting that issue aside.

I had planned to get the new Mac Pro with the 8800 card.
If you have one and haven't experienced that rebooting problem that seems common please let me know. I don't want to make the purchase and then have to be replacing one unit with another which is what some have had to do.

(I'm still on my 733 G4 and in need of the Intel chip and the speed for video editing.)

Thanks in advance.

Perhaps the 8800 cards don't cause the dreaded restart after wake problem that seems widespread with the stock card.

I'll be putting my order in this week!

Thanks.

I've had one crash that seemed to be caused by the video card drivers; the console had a bunch of lines about NVidia right before the crash, but this could just have been a random glitch. There is one thing that seems annoying about the 8800 though.... I have my energy saver settings set to sleep the monitor after 15 minutes. When it sleeps the monitor it "freezes" everything on screen but doesn't make it all go black. its like the video memory has a bunch of latches on the output that don't reset. I am connected with a DVI->HDMI cable to the monitor, however I know that has nothing to do with it as when I use my iMac (MiniDVI->DVI->HDMI) into the monitor I do NOT have this issue. The strange thing is that the one time the computer crashed, even after I held the power button down to turn off the computer, the monitor still had the frozen image of my crashed desktop onscreen for more than 30 seconds. I think that when the computer powers off the video card (monitor sleep) it doesn't send the appropriate signals to turn off the output first, but just turns off the rendering part of the card or something like that. No big deal, but it does waste energy and possibly wear out the monitor more quickly.
