I got my new 1TB internal drive today and went about the process of trying to transfer my library to the new
drive via the "Consolidate" feature in iTunes, and now I've got big problems because of that. 11,000 songs are at risk
if I can't figure this out! So...here are the steps that got me to this dismal point, and because the capacity of the hard drive is
still reading as they are there, I assume they still are somewhere:
-Installed the new drive in my last MP bay
-Created new Music Folder from the iTunes Prefs
-ran "Consolidate Music" command from drop-menu
-stopped half-way thru after getting hung up on a Movie in the Movie Folder
-Rebooted Mac and iTunes, did it again, same results.
-Trashed the movie that it got stuck on
-Realized that it was creating duplicate files every time I tried to Consolidate (ie - "example.mp3 + example 1.mp3 + example 2.mp3)
within the same album folders
-Trashed the new music and started over
-Empty Trash
*Panic*
-Realize that all artist folders M-Z are no longer in the original Music Folder! (As if it had 'deleted' that which it should have already copied)
-Ran Disk Utility on the HD with the original library with these results:
- Verify and Repair disk “Rubicon”
Checking HFS Plus volume.
Checking Extents Overflow file.
Checking Catalog file.
Invalid sibling link
Volume check failed.
Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit
1 HFS volume checked
1 volume could not be repaired because of an error
-The capacity of the original HD still reads the same 6.7gb remaining!
-When doing a finder search on one of the artists that was 'deleted', it then appears
in the search results (ie - Zero 7, that showed up and when clicking on the folder
for Zero 7, there appeared all of the songs within it, and then that was added once
again to the Music folder.
I've never seen anything like this before, and it sucks because my music collection
I've taken 10 years to build is now at risk, but it looks like it's still on that HD...somewhere!
Any ideas how to make it appear again?
