"Redundant Array of Inexpensive Drives." It's a method of providing redundancy in one's server storage, so that when (not if) a failure happens it is not (as/too) bad as it might be. There are a number of ways this is implemented.

RAID is also known as "Redundant Array of Independent Devices" now, due to servers offering RAID protection for disk drives, tape drives, and even the system memory. First server I worked with that had it for memory was the Compaq DL760. Even allowed memory to be hot added with the setup, as you would pull one of the five memory boards at a time and add more DIMMS.

You're joking, right? Obviously he's kidding, while you - who clearly know what Google and Wikipedia are - had to ask what RAID is here instead of typing it in to Google that you know all about.

Let's be a little less angsty about the whole thing, shall we? It's quite possible that a bit of research turned up a confusing mix of information. It's also possible that we should all assume that something as silly as turtle's post MUST be intended to be silly, given that he's been here for so long and has so many posts.

Can't we all just get along?
