Is anyone else fustrated at the software epson has for their scanners? Also with the overall quality of their scanners? I own a 3170 and it falls short. Just interested to know if anyone else felt the same.

I hate epson printer but scanners seem to be good. I would get a Canon but I hear their scanning software is 10x worse.

It seems to me after reading posts here and at the Apple discussion groups the use of scanners on Macs is a lousy experience. People hate Epson, hate Canon. I'd like to get a scanner to archive old photos.
What to do. I suppose just buy them from Best Buy, try them out and return them if they don't work. I won't get the cheapest price but at least I'll not have any return hassles.

Tookie swears by Canon scanners but it makes me wonder why only he and people he know seem to know how to get them to work.

I've been pleased as punch with my 2450. I don't think it's possible to be happy with any cheap scanner, unless your needs are extremely limited.

This is the correct answer. Gives you much more control over your scanning than any of the software that comes with it.
