Google has released a new Chrome build for Windows and Mac platforms. The stable Chrome 22 build brings several new features, including a pointer-lock Javascript API that will enable mouse control in 3D first-person shooters. Rather than interrupting control when the mouse moves outside of a window or hits the screen edge, the cursor is hidden and input is locked until the user hits the Escape key.

"While games are fun, these capabilities also empower other types of applications such as medical and scientific visualization, training, simulation, modeling, authoring packages, and more," Google engineer Vincent Scheib wrote in a blog post. Aside from mouse lock, the browser also adds a number of enhancements for Windows 8 and interface improvements for the newest MacBook Pro's Retina display. Chrome 22 is pushed as an automatic background update for existing installations, or available as a free download directly from Google. [via Engadget]

How long before web ads lock your mouse so you can't navigate away from them?
I like systems, their application excepted. (George Sand, translated from French), "J'aime les systmes, leur application excepte."
