Jim Abrahams, one third of the Zucker, Abrahams, Zucker team that gave us comedy touchstones such as Airplane!, Top Secret, and the criminally-cancelled-too-soon Police Squad, has passed. He was 80.

Boy did they have “stupid but hilarious” down. Starting with the opening of “Airplane” when the guy accidentally directs an airliner into the building, you knew that none of the story was going to make sense. But you also knew you needed to hold on tight because the ride would be worth it.
