It's a common right-wing narrative.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clinto...spiracy_theory
Such allegations have been circulated since at least 1994, when a film called The Clinton Chronicles, produced by Larry Nichols and promoted by Rev. Jerry Falwell, accused Bill Clinton of multiple crimes, including murder. Additional promulgators of the conspiracy include Newsmax CEO Christopher Ruddy, former U.S. President Donald Trump, and U.S. representative Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia's 14th congressional district.
Really great company to be in there.

I was unaware of the Clinton theory. Thx for the link.
For a conspiracy theory, they didn't do it right. They're supposed to name-drop famous victims. I don't recognize most of those names.

One of these things is not like the others...
It's not even a separate category where I can tell it to "Show me less of this," it's just an individual item placed within the stuff I actually interact with.

While she looks attractive, I was unable to match up the background vs Des Moines. Some buildings look similar, but the road's too wide. Des Moines has their high-rises mostly around narrower streets. I'm also wondering about the swimming pools. My impression is that Iowa is pretty cold.

I thought the reference was more specific: I don’t remember any names, but a Clinton aide/confidante who was involved also in some business dealings committed suicide. The conspiracy theory was, of course, that he “committed suicide” (aka the Clintons did it). This shaped my early view of American politics as being full of conspiracy theories. I was on an exchange in 1997/1998 in the US during the Lewinsky scandal.
It really struck me as batty, at least for as long as I am politically conscious German politicians were and are not judged on that. Our last president was a pastor who was married. But the First Lady was his girlfriend of over 10 years. It was not even news. (No, the conservatives were not up in arms, when his name was floated in the previous election to President, by the Social Democrats, many conservatives actually said “Damn, good choice, too bad we can’t vote for him this time.”)

Ah, yes. Vince Foster. Probably the first solid realization (proof of concept?) of the right’s swing toward establishing an alternate reality, begun largely through (back then) talk radio. Up until then, it was all a loose melange of black helicopters, chemtrails, admiralty flags, etc. that were the purview of genuine nutters of all flavors.
The Vince Foster thing (and the attendant “Clinton Body Count” conspiracy) really seemed to take hold and spread its roots almost exclusively throughout conservative/right-leaning america.

Yeah, and that struck me as really odd and different. At the time, it really felt like a “witch hunt”. It was no longer about political disagreements, it struck me as unhinged and a sign of an unhealthy part in the political system. Things like the birther conspiracy were cut from the same clay: it isn’t that Obama has bad policy positions, he’s “not even American”.
It is unfortunate that the populist right in Germany is trying out the same strategies now.

It is also important to understand how the Clintons became what they are today. If memory serves, Hillary Clinton was criticized for keeping her maiden name — until she was forced to change it.

I have a bunch of old monitors too. I have 3 ADC displays, I think they are all 23", one has a broken foot and I only have one ADC-DVI adaptor. I think. Also got a 27" mDP LED which needs a new cable fitting and a 30" Cinema Display which just needs a PSU. I have all the stuff needed to build it a new PSU but just haven't gotten around to it yet. When I finish cleaning up my office/study/lab room I will make it a priority to go on my new desk.

Just noticed the Snap-On dinner knives set. Definitely weird. $175 is consistent with the SnapOn tax, but who would want one? With the crescent end sharpened, it's not like you could actually use one on a tight nut. Too dangerous to apply force to the sharpened end. Also, all the box ends appear to be the same size.

Doctor put me on a scale today and I’m 145. I knew I dropped some weight because of the seizure, but that’s a full 20 pounds under.

I guess “good”. Maybe 30 pounds off “normal”.
I was a fat kid (270 at max), and even all these years later it’s hard for me to come up with a “good”. I honestly feel like I’ve got a bit of a gut right now.
Which I guess I do, but it’s not fat. My abs just aren’t tight enough to hold the guts in.

Former fat kid here (over 250 when I stopped weighing myself) Hi! It’s been almost 40 years since I finally managed to get the weight off and exercise, and I still feel like I have a gut. I think it’s just a learned, burned-in self image. Even when I was an active runner, I couldn’t seem to get rid of the spare tire around my hips.
I’m honestly not sure what a “good” weight for me might be. I’ve been as low as 140, but that didn’t exactly feel good to me. I’m 5’ 7” now (formerly 5’ 8”, but aging shrinks you) and right around 155. I feel heavy, though, but it just might just be age and my body falling apart.

My 6 yo has a legitimate 6 pack and I'm jealous. I suppose if I ate just 8 grapes per day like she does I'd probably get down to 0% body fat and have visible muscles, too.

Our 6-year-old is getting there, too. She is super picky with food. Think we-have-had-to-go-to-hospital-several-times bad. Ugh. She is a vegetarian who hates fruits and vegetables. Unless the fruits are in jam or some sort of ice cream or candy.

I dislike a lot of vegetables but was a vegetarian for a year. Scrambled egg sandwiches were key to my diet.

Hehe.
She likes eggs only if my wife makes them Japanese-style (rolled, scrambled eggs, which are flavored with, among other things, sugar). She typically scrapes the sauce off of her pasta even for sauces she likes. If she hasn't tried it, it is an instant no.

I can see them struggling against the gators, tough to gnaw through that skin, if theres water it's even trickier for them. So rats and gators should be the choice. And ideally you'd make sure theres some water involved in the arena of battle.

If there’s no water, the gators are completely gimped. That’s why people wrestle them.

YouTube's algorithms are confused about my economic status. Ads for Aarons Rent-To-Own are alternating with ads for multi-million-dollar real estate. Haven't seen the private jet sales offers lately.
Edit: the private jet sales ads may have triggered because I'd been watching Boeing videos about their screwups. Watch reports on Boeing quality problems, get offers to buy a jet. Makes total sense.

My parents' 2013 iMac has gotten so slow that it's almost unusable. It's the glued-together 21.5" that's completely non-upgradable has still has a physical 5400rpm hard drive.
I had my dad order a refurb 24" M3 iMac and went over yesterday to help set it up. I set up a Time Machine backup over a decade ago so I figured migration would be a piece of cake. I did NOT figure that the new iMac only has USB-C/Thunderbolt ports - no USB-A, or ethernet, or anything useful. I tried to use Migration Assistant from the old iMac to the new one, but it just hung indefinitely at "Starting," which appears to be a common issue. One of the Apple support ideas was to use a different communication method, which wasn't an option for me. I couldn't plug the Time Machine hard drive in because I had no adapter to get it to USB-C.
I ended up turning on file sharing the old iMac and mounting that to the new iMac, then dragging and dropping all of their files by hand. It wasn't too bad, speeds were 30MB+/sec, I got through most of it but when I went to copy over their iPhone library (photos from 2005-2019, 33GB) the transfer rate slowed to about 10KB/sec and it was estimating 14 days to completion. Not sure if something about copying the iPhoto library was especially resource intensive or if it's stored in a particularly bad hard drive sector, but I just let it ride. I'll get them a USB-C hub so they can actually use their keyboard and flash drives and finish the transfer next time I come over.

Seems like heading to the store for a $5 USB A —> USB C adapter would have been the easier alternative.

The only store in their town is one of those shitty dollar stores and they don't carry adapters. The nearest store that would have anything useful is a Wal-Mart and that's a 45 minute round trip. If I'd done that first thing we might have had time but by the time Migration Assistant failed I wouldn't have had time. Rural America.

I guess it's too late now but you can upgrade those iMacs. I've done SATA SSDs in dozens of them. The only tricks are:
1: If you dismantle in a cold room, you need heat to remove the display. You probably need some anyway. Heat and patience;
2: Getting the right adhesive can be hard. Or impossible. I usually put a piece of clear tape over the top of the display when I'm done. It's not pretty but it beats the display falling out, cracking the glass and yanking the LVDS out while the Mac is running and frying the port/GPU.
They run pretty well with the SSD and plenty of RAM. Use OCLP to update all the way and they are fine for a lot of stuff.

Yeah there was no way I was pulling the display off. I did it to my 2010 iMac with suction cups but that was just magnets, I'm not messing with adhesives.
I had them buy this hub, which I think should meet their needs:

Refurb, so I couldn't pick any options. I found their current iMac with the ethernet cord sitting behind it disconnected, so I don't think they'll notice wifi-only.
