Ugh. What's with the forums today? It give me an error message whenever I try to post a poll.

Maybe I'll try again later.

You were FINALLY SUCCESSFUL!

My vote for most annoying is for Dick Vitale! He completely turns me off.

Sure, the thread is here, but I got an error message instead of a poll setup page.

But I find Bill Walton more annoying than Dick Vitale. At least Dick knows he's annoying.

Then again, neither one has driven a broadcasting partner to alcoholism. Poor Pat Summerall!

I love Bill Walton, perhaps because he gets on everyones nerves.

'Snapper' Jones and particularly, Doug Collins I find dull and obvious.

By far, Larry Merchant on HBO Boxing. I feel bad for Lampley whenever this guy starts rambling about some **** that happened in the 20's.

Tim McCarver, no doubt about it. And I used to listen to him all the time when he broadcast the Mets years ago, and he wasn't that bad then. But now he's so bad, he makes Joe Buck look good by comparison.

Walton all the way - when they picked him for the Illinois-Arizona game several years back in the elite eight (that time they lost...) and his son was on Arizona, I immediately learned to despise him.

Going to have to go with Al "I said 'Do you believe in miracles' so I'll be a star forever" Michaels. I can't stand the man. He falls in love with a team/player whehn they are doing well, as soon as the situation changes, poof, he's in love with the other side.

As opposed to Dick Vitale, who is in love with Duke and can barely tell that there are any other teams.

being a resident of Canada, more precisely a Québécois, I cast my vote for CBC's Don Cherry. He's an ex-NHL player and coach, and is now a commentator for the Hockey Night in Canada. His remarks are highly political, subjective and clearly biased, and often contain derogatory comments against French-speaking players. Furthermore, he seems to routinely ignore his co-analyst and almost never looks at him while he talks. Finally, he sports what we could call a... questionnable wardrobe choice...

Let the pictures speak for themselves :

Heh. Don Cherry was one of the best parts of living in Canada when I was there for 6 months. He's definitely a COLOR commentator.

The third guy on ESPN's Sunday night game (the short one). He used to be part of NBC's number one crew back when NBC had the NFL. For some reason, whatever he says just rubs me the wrong way.

He gets way too excited way too often. Every other play is the most fantastic thing that has happened in the history of basketball.

He speaks a language that the rest of us don't (Jim Rome has this problem as well). He has so much lingo that I'm not sure what he's saying.

He won't shut up about Duke.

Bob Ueker is at least amusing; Dick Vitale has been irritating me for 30+ years. I find nothing in Dick's style at all endearing or even interesting, and his "BABY!" crap was old the first time he did it. Yes, Dick REALLY annoys me!

That's not to say he's the ONLY annoying commentator. John Madden is really annoying too. And I think just about any commentator who wears a tux to a boxing match is guaranteed to be annoying on at least one level-trying to look respectable when he's really hoping there'll be blood to talk about.

And for my northern friends, Don Cherry LOOKS annoying; that's a real accomplishment!

Johny Miller - yes, the man's won a number of golf majors. But he has no skills now, but still talks down to all the players as if he could do everything better. T

Pointing out flaws in a player or a play is one thing, but to go on and on about how you would've done it better is lame.

I will have to go with the Bob Costas - Katie Couric duo for the Olympics. Just shut up and let me watch the opening ceremonies. Also, have to agree with the last poster, Jonny Miller is an idiot. Another one who is high on the list of those who make my ears bleed is Brent Musberger. Talk about Mr. Cliche.

I think it's in the contract rights for broadcasting the Olympics in the U.S. that you have to find the most irritating and banal broadcasters to cover the ceremonies, and explain all the complicated foreign bits to the American public, instead of just letting them watch the show. I miss the time when I was living in Buffalo and could get the CBC coverage over the air. I'd watch curling and hockey over figure skating any day.

I wish they'd part out the events and sign contracts with networks PER EVENT. That way, I'd have a chance of watching the parts of the Olympics that I wanted to watch. This pisses me off about March Madness as well. There is no way in hell CBS can air all the games, yet they get the contract right to do it and I get screwed out of being able to see them while they cut in and out of games nonstop.

I remember WAY back when ABC Sports was GOOD. Their commentators commented on the procedings, even the Olympics. Now, every sports program I see is staffed by people who just gush about this player or that one. I haven't seen an analysis of a strategic situation in a football game in decades-though I have seen lots of tabloid-style "Well Johnnie, it looks like Adrian isn't going to be off the bench now for a long time. Let's look at that police video of what appears to be Adrian in a compromising situation..." It's pathetic, and it's why I don't bother with 99% of sports on TV. Headline News is all I can put up with anymore.

Someone up there mentioned Madden already. But I like him. I do think that the games really bastardize his commentating. When I play those games I immediately turn off the commentating. The way they do it is just lame.

But I will argue that Madden is one of the best "color commentators" around today. Especially for football. He's got a huge knowledge of the game, and is just a likeable guy (IMO). Sometimes he goes off into weird tangents, but most of the time he says some good stuff. Both of the MNF commentators are my favorites for football. For some reason they are very comforting to me. They don't get in the way of the game, as do the ESPN clowns. Some of the things those ESPN clown say just make me want to smack them all in the head repeatedly with their microphones.
