Hey folks,

I have a friend who wants to put some more memory in her 12" Powerbook G4 (1.5ghz). I think I read that it only supports up to 1.25gb of memory? Is this true? She has 512mb of RAM currently (stock) and is running Leopard. Would it be better to buy a 1GB stick or just add another 512mb?

Thanks!

It appears from this page that 1.25 gb is indeed the maximum memory, and since it only has one slot, you can only upgrade by putting a 1gb stick in there. Apparently it has 256 mb built onto the motherboard.

Yup, it does have 256 MB soldered onto the motherboard. 1.25GB is the limit, with a 1 GB stick in addition to the on-board RAM.

I must admit I've always wondered whether a 2 GB stick would be acknowledged. I know that previous Apple laptops have been able to exceed Apple's original RAM specs. Has anybody tried this, or does the slot really only support a 1 GB chip?

This could be very interesting, mine 12" could sure use some more! (Right now it's at the limit with 1.25Gb.)

I'm not sure if anyone has made 2 GB SO-DIMM DDR (not DDR2) modules.
